If the travel of the three servos is different then the more throws you allow (via the swash mix) the more those differences are going to be at the extremes. (just to clarify - the swash mix affects all three servos exactly the same, so it will never cause one to move more than the others, only that if one is indeed different, more throws will just make this difference all the more visible, if you see what I mean)

So I'd start by setting the throws in the swash mix, max cyclics and close to where you want on collective, then you have the full range of motion at the swash. Then go to mid stick and see where you're at, should be zero pitch. Level the swash at mid stick, then check it at the top and bottom with a leveling tool or some way to see if it's tilting at all. I use the leveling tool and set it under the swash and look at it at eye level with the white wall of our lounge in the background and this way I can spot even a tiny gap. You want everything in the linkage nice and parallel at zero pitch / mid-stick and ideally if you can acheive this by just adjusting the linkage but a little subtrim is OK - once you're level at mid stick don't touch the subtrims again. Once it's level at mid stick, check it at the top and if it's level at mid stick but goes out a bit at the top (or bottom) then the travel adjusts need changing a bit, then do the same at bottom stick. (and obviously you want to be using a pitch curve that is linear with 100 at the top and zero at the bottom so you're seeing the full pitch range.)

So, set travels to 100% and swash mixing to whatever the max is. Then take the head off and level the swash at mid stick. Then level the swash at high stick and then at low stick using the travel settings as you said trillian? Then set zero pitch at mid stick again?

The kind of levelling tool I use doesn't require taking the head off but some do. If you can use a minimum of subtrim to get the swash level at mid-stick then changing the travel adjusts to get it level bottom and top shouldn't affect the mid stick (and generally you won't be making large changes to the travel either).

My God, how hard is it to set up a flybarred head, he is confusing himself with too much "no" knowledge and "crib" sheets

I know. ..I know. ..my problem is, I've learnt backwards! I started on mini cp's a few years ago. I learned inverted without a sim.

I then gave up and bought next sim and learned a lot more like piro flips and tic tocs, funnels etc.

I went on to dive in at the deep end and bought a mikado logo 400se with a flybarless system, running a mini v bar.

To be honest I muddled my way through setting that up with help from guy's on the forum here, but never really fully understood what was happening.

Now I've been fortunate enough to be 'given' this amazing heli and only now am I beginning to appreciate exactly what all the terminology was really about!

I'm now realising how one thing effects the other in the transmitter. ..it's Great actually, probably the type of heli I should have bought before the mikado.

My biggest problem is that where most normal people learn by watching and talking to someone who knows, I can't do that, I've not got anyone local to help. ..no, I can't get to my local clubs when they meet. ..so I'm shooting in the dark really, I'm getting snippets of what I need and wavey davey and trillian have been really excellent at helping!

To be honest, judging by what I've now learnt and watching videos on YouTube. ..I think a lot of people are also pretty clueless with what does what on a fly barred head! I'm a little bit ocd at times, and like to know what's actually going on in the background when I learn something new. ..I'm not happy with ok, sorry about that;-)

Oh. ..by the way, once this is sorted, I've got a skip full of questions about, nitro engine setup, maintenance and fuels, pitch curves, throttle curves, throttle hold settings and mix settings for throttle hold and throttle cut!

No worrries When I first started I had a Raptor 30 and looking at all the mechanical stuff on the rotorhead I just had no idea what anything did. It took me a while to get the jist of it all. And then I went way deep into the flybar lengths and paddle weights, dampers and various different types of rotorhead geometry, there's a heck of a lot to it if you really want to know how it all works.

I truly understand that, but you have done all this typing and realistically he is no further forward, after all this time, I have set up probably over time, with crashes and new builds 50 heads, never had any problems like that........

But if you're on your own and have never set a flybarred head up, and as we all do, you want to get it absolutely bang on then you can go round in circles a bit until the euraka moment when it all makes sense and you realise you don't have to get the n'th degree out of a setup as you won't feel it in flight.

I think going through the pain is how some learn, I just go ask a clubmate but if you haven't got that the next best is someone on here

I am in the very fortunate position that I can ask waveydavey personally. I have done several times.

This is a great forum though. One can obtain the answer to almost any question.
