Thanks to Made2fade for the 270 thread and
thanks to Petski and all for the lipo suggestions so far.
I have looked at the Drone Opti lipo size ,they are +9mm wider than the specific Eflight Lipo for the 270.
i could get a couple of the Opti's just to fly this 270 but, i really prefer to fly with a canopy, there must be some more owners out there as mine is now on back order.

Funnily enough I use BeastX rescue on my OXY 3 and it works really well. The 270 CFX looks promising, but the OXY 3 is the best thing out there in this size class, no question. Quite a lot more money though!

I see what you mean. It's going to be expensive if only the Eflite battery fits under the canopy. Or maybe there's enough room?

I saw posts on Facebook and HF today saying the BeastX included with the 270CFX is a cut down version and a lot of the parameters are missing. Apparently it won't work with other servos so you can't use it in other helis, and you have to pay another 100EUR to upgrade to the full version.

Yep, i went to change the paremeters on mine and it skips through most of the menu choices without allowing you to change them. Not too much of a problem for me as it will stay in the 270 cfx and it flys fine. Also, i'm running optipower 1300mah 6s getting 5mins sport flying at 70% throttle with 23% left in the battery, so those 900mah at high head speeds won't be giving you much flight time.

Bear in mind that the 270CFX uses the Castle governor in "Set RPM" mode. So "70% throttle" is not really 70% throttle - it's just the second pre-defined head speed in the ESC. You will need a CastleLink and a PC to change the head speed. Also, 5 mins is quite a lot and the smaller battery will weigh less so the drop-off in time is not linear with mAH capacity.

I fly a Warp 360 with 1300mah 6s packs, so i am guessing you had a Warp too Kranker?

i just found an online store in Germany selling the E flight packs so I've got just x4 on the way for the moment, will see what other packs become available in the near future.

Have you tried to change the SAFE OPTION? Do you have all the abilities of the SAFE or its locked to on or off only?

I haven't yet tried myself, but according to a HeliFreak thread, you cannot change SAFE options via the manual setup procedure on the unit itself, however you can alter these settings via software and the USB cable. I've ordered the USB adapter and it should be with me today, so if I get the chance tonight i'll go through both the physical unit options and the software based options and report back on the differences.

Before you change anything, please could you let me know what the factory default BeastX settings are for all parameters and pots? (including rescue mode, gain and collective input). I'd like to compare it with the BeastX setup I have on my OXY 3 (same size heli). It should make a good baseline.

O yes please I am in a big dilemma of buying or not this heli so your input in regards safe will be much appreciated.

yeah but we are talking of a small heli here, and it's 6s which in terms of stored energy is equal to a 3s battery of twice the mAh.

I read that too but find it hard to believe that HH would lock the unit from manual adjustment but let you get around the lock simply by plugging in the USB cable?

It would be interesting to get a second opinion for sure.

This is the 'official' word on the locking of the 270CFX AR7210BX:
The Firmware that comes on the AR7210BX with the 270CFX has limited functionality. This was done for a variety of reasons, including the licensing agreement with Beast X.

If you want the full "open stock" AR7210BX, you can flash it with Studio X. There is no charge for this, but you will not have any "SAFE" functionality. It will perform and program exactly like you bought an "open stock" AR7210BX.

If you wish to have the full Governor and SAFE functionality, the upgrade cost is about $100 as James Haley mentioned.

The 270CFX is still a bargain considering what you get. It flies very well right out of the box.

HeliFreak - View Single Post - AR7210BX "locked" software.........

So the stories about all options being available once you plug in the USB lead must be wrong, maybe the software makes it look like the options are there but they have to actual effect?

Anyway, you get a pre-setup FBL controller that has 'SAFE rescue' functionality. The governor and the alternate SAFE modes (attitude limiting etc) are disabled and the setup options are locked so you cant fit it to a different heli. Apparently though you can revert to standard software that will allow it to be setup for other helis, but you would lose SAFE. Or you can purchase firmware upgrades which will turn on the missing features and remove the locked setup options.

I just got home and the usb adapter was waiting for me, so i connected to the AR7210bx via studio x. The below screenshots show the options that are available on the unit, and i can confirm that any settings that are not greyed out can indeed be changed via studio x, and the changes are reflected in the AR7210bx even after power cycling. The screenshots reflect the default setting for the unit out of the box and i DID NOT have to re-flash to the standard firmware to see these options (the only thing i've altered is pot 1, as all 3 pots are set to 0 when you get it). I changed the SAFE mode function from "bailout with pitch" to "bailout rescue" and i could immediately see that change on the heli when hitting the bailout switch, and as mentioned above the unit retained this setting after powering down and powering back up without studio x connected. You'll notice from the screenshots that the major omission appears to be the governor settings, which for an electric heli isn't that big a loss anyway. So i think we can say that when purchasing a 270 cfx you get na AR72100bx that a) has SAFE as standard b) has no governor settings and c) can only be properley configured via the studio x interface....not bad for the price!

Just reply with any questions and i'll take a look and try my best to answer.
