the problem imho is the the design. if we look at how a normal thrusted tail works there are 2 radial bearings AND a thrust bearing in there. it is like this for a reason, thrust bearings are not designed for side loads but align are asking them to do it in this application. i don't know why they done this as there is room to put in another radial with the thrust bearing no problem if they extend the hub threads up 4mm. it is still not close to hitting the tail blades....you watch this space, someone will make a tail like this sooner or later.

ofcourse what i done has other problems, i'm asking radials to take lateral loads which they are not designed for either, but because the wag was due to excess play in the grips this fixes it and the tail is superb now.....raptors ran for years with a double radial with little problems altough a few did throw a blade. i feel the forces at this size of tail will not be a problem but time will tell. IF someone makes a proper hub (you listening quk!!!) all they need to do is add 4mm to the length then the 500 will have THE proper tail. i should add a minimal tolerance setup should be fine with the thrusted one only but to date align do not seem capable of this.

    cheers

btw folks, let me again add. this may or may not work for you and long term i can't comment as i have flown it twice but it's the best the tail has ever been. i will see how long it lasts and i'll keep a close eye on the bearings.

        cheers

I've possibly got some in my box that size I will look later but I'm not sure I have anything in the way of shims but I'm sure something will turn up

On mine it's more noticeable just sitting in the hover in front of me. It's a sort of wag or looseness to the tail but its not really wag. Difficult to explain really but it's been there since the heli was built and irritating rather than a real problem

Only prob Ive found with the tail was it really reacts in FFF if your gain is too high, it dont like it, apart from that the tails been solid, its the bloomin mod that annoys me, Ive tried the dampner upgrade smothering them in silicon, but it still does it unless the headspeed it at about 80% which I think is rather high just for tootaling around oh and getting it landed. only in idleup its as smooth as silk and nice to fly.

                  Tony, there's you answer...

Flick into 100% flat idle-up before you leave the ground and enjoy
                  Cheers, Lee.

Totally agree with Lee here although it doesnt solve the problem in general does it.

I fly every pack now in idle 2, No problems at all.

                      I agree - I was being a touch naughty
Having said that, apart from it's first flight, I've not flown the 500 in Normal mode.
I might try it to see what happens as mine is as good as gold (apart from doing a splendid job of mullering my 2100 3s Revos )
                      Cheers, Lee.

I never leave the ground now in Normal, it's purely for spooling up and to be fair with most ESC's these days you can just flick into ST1 or 2 and spool up there
