Its worth noting with a std raptor 30 you will have no tail control in a proper power off auto,so expect it to turn nose into wind.

Now its interesting you saying that Ron because!
A couple of times after a normal powered landing, I have noticed when I kill the engine when it is running at about half throttle, sometimes the tail rotor will stop a lot earlier than the main blades do. Is his normal for a std Raptor 30 ?

Yes mate the tail is not driven once the power is cut. So you have no tail control.

You can get a conversion kit that will give you a driven tail.

          Ahh!
Thank god for that. I thought something was wrong with it. Now I can enjoy flying without worrying about the lack of drive to the tail once the power has been cut.
I shall have a look and see if I can find a conversion kit for it as I want to make learning auto's as simple as I can lol

          Cheers Ron

down load the raptor 50 manual and find the part numbers for the tail drive pulley
compare what is different to the 30 and 50
order the 50 parts and you will then have a driven tail

what you will have is a little less power to the head due to the drag of the tail but you will not notice this in the real world

Auto's how high for it to be a proper Auto?

I know the 550dfc will be the best of my lot at auto's but I'm still tempted to try the 450dfc first (sacrificial Heli)

It does have 500 skids so this has to help with the touchdown

Is there a 450 sized esc with a bailout available? Maybe the ability to go silly high and TH down to get a feel for it then chicken out if required would help

I auto my 450 and I've rabbit eared it loads and tipped it over, never done any damage. You have to get it down quick tho as there's not much 'hang time' with 450's. Good practice tho and you'll find doing it on your 550 a doddle in comparison.
