  • Blade CX2 - GOT IT!!

OK, so finally, I bit the bullet and coughed up for my Blade CX2. After trawling the 'net for days, I couldn't find anywhere to buy it any cheaper than about £120 delivered, so I popped into my local model shop in the hope that I could at least clap eyes on the Blade. They showed me a very similar model in flight and I was suitably impressed so, very unlike me, I coughed up there and then.

Anyway, I have had it since about 3.00pm today and I still haven't flown it. I have wisely (I think) removed it from the box, charged the battery properly and read the instructions and am just about at that point where I will get it plugged in.

I opted to not use Phoenix, so I guess we will see if that was the right or the wrong thing. LOL.

I'll update this thread with the good (or bad) news and possibly even pics of the broken Heli/Furniture/Fittings. Ever the optimist eh?!?

Thanks for all your help guys.

      You did the right thing

Good luck with your first few flights (I know I needed it for mine!) and don't be shy asking for help fixing things after your first few bumps, loads of knowledge on this forum.

I guarantee you now, you'll have a dozen or so flights with the heli and then be buying the sim, its benefit is invaluable. Not so much for the CX2 specifically, but its something that can be used any time and for as long as your thumbs hold out to practise and eventually learn to use the tx with less conscious thought.

I am on the same learning path as you and my 'acid test' before upgrading to a 450 SE V2 or similar is that I can perform and sustain figure 8s, tail-in and nose-in solid hovers and fast forward flight in Phoenix...because that means I am almost at the point where I can re-orient the model without having to "think" about which way to push the controls

Good luck and have fun m8

Wow, I'm glad you pitched up. I'm really tired of the recharge time of the stock charger (have 3 batteries atm) so thats good to hear. I assume the BC8 is suitable for charging batteries for the trex 450 SE V2 (18C 2200mah 3S I think they are)?

The BC8 will charge batteries up to 6s and do for almost any heli charging.

The BC8 charges one battery at a time, is that correct?

Right, I've had a go and the one thing I learnt is that I need more space!! It looks like the trims need playing with maybe? I did get it off the ground, but only just, however, every time it was heading for a unit or our Stainless bin or some other piece of expensive furniture, I just panicked and backed off!! A couple of times my instinct caused me to push the throttle lever forward instead of back when I wanted to back off!! Now the battery is flat and the Heli is still in one piece, so thats progress.

I might take it to work tomorrow, where we are in a high-bay unit and there is more space.

The one thing I am most disappointed with is how long the battery takes to charge. From my RC Car days, the batteries would charge in about 20 mins, so this long-haul is new to me!! That Bantam BC8 is an expensive little bugger isn't it? Can I make any improvement to the charging time without having to spend £150??!! If not, well, thats life!!

I had the throttle no more than half-open at any time and was experimenting with movements of the sticks to prevent it wanting to wander. I am fairly patient and I hope this will pay off. I really feel like more space will help me no end, though I hope it doesn't make me cocky and want to get this thing 15 feet up just yet!!

I'm using the Cellpro 4S charger from Aurorra in conjunction with an adaptor board (Also from Aurorra) The CX2 Batteries just plug right in

Around £60.00 for the lot & I'm getting 20-30 minute charges also.
Are you aware that Flightpower do an Evolite 2S 800mah Lipo for the CX2 mate? I bought one at the weekend & it comes with the same connectors, is £5.00 cheaper than the E-flite one & has a bit more poke
                  Cheers,

Welcome to the world of learning RCH, a road I have only just started down also. I bet you're relieved as hell to not have bought a more expensive heli huh? I know I was!

More (interior) space the better when first learning the CX2 (or any co-axial) just because its so easy to lose orientation and dumb-thumb it into an obstacle. What you will find is that although they are readytofly out of the box...and they are, you will likely need to tweak things like the control arm length/servo hole used, gain and potentiometer on the 3 in 1. Its worth its weight in gold to learn this stuff now because (a) you'll need to anyway and (b) the theory/basics transfer to more complex helis.

Enjoy your big open space (not envious at all...much. I learnt to fly my CX2 in the lounge...10' by 8', and can now fly it from the lounge, through doorways, up the stairs to land in the bedroom, and return, without crashing...Yaaay for me ).

Have fun mate and keep us informed of how you get on. Any questions there are loads of CX2 owners/users here so help is but a mouse-click away.

                    Brewber.

ahh yep yep, thats the way mate, I have been at it now for about 5 weeks now, started with co-axe bounced it round liveing room hit everything in sight, you will do that, They all call that the learning curve, I call it the Frustration curve. Get your self some spare rotor blades, you will need them, also put the training balls on until you get familiar with the controls. It really can get confusing, as you have already found out you tend to panic at first and inevitably push or pull the wrong stick input. I would suggest you get the flight simulator trust me you will reap the benefits in the long run, I have a Lama 4, Its more or less the same as CX2, got head upgrade on it, flew like a pig when I first flew it after that. However, reading the forums and tweaking the rods and swash plate I eventually have it spot on, I can merrily hover round the living room now, and the Old Dog just watches rather than running for his bed. And it feels fantastic when you eventually beat the laws of gravity and can control your first flight. I have Also got the Honey Bee Cp, but wrong X-tal 72mhz, but am leaning loads from that, pitch settings, how the idle up + - pitch setup, tracking the rotor blades all that stuff, you are going to have to get your head round all that eventually, But as I have found bits will come to you as you move forward, so just be patient, take the crashes fix you’re your chopper and get back in there, and you will be Flying around your Living room in no time.

                      ROY.

Yeah mate charging at 2C...Just manually setting the charger to 1.5ah charge rate.
The Flightpower was £15.00 & is rated at 18C continuous 28C bursts.
The adaptor board can be used with Flightpower & Align packs up to 4S. Other Lipos may fit ie Thunderpower but as I don't have any I couldn't be sure.
