I was chatting to Dave Fisher from flyinfish today at my lesson and he mentioned he was running this course. I thought it might be of use to some on here so thought I'd post up the details. I've copied them from their website but all the info is here.

BEGINNER'S COURSE FEATURING THE BLADE 450X - SATURDAY 12th MAY 2012

LOOK NO FURTHER.... this course is designed with you in mind. And as an added bonus (provided we have a minimum of 10 participants), you could end the day with the course costing you absolutely nothing. Yes, you did read that right, absolutely nothing £0.00.If you already have your Blade 450X, then you can just turn up on the day with your model. Or, you can pre-purchase your Blade 450X through us & have it waiting for you on the day. Any additional extras (transmitters / chargers / batteries etc) can also be pre-purchased as required. The course will include an introduction to the model, navigation & set up of the transmitter, flight set-up & adjustments, introduction to flying your Blade 450X using dual-control with Dave, repair & maintenance of your helicopter, understanding maintenance & charging of your lipos.
At the end of the day, each participant's name will be put in a draw & the winner will have the cost of his course refunded!

Theyre expecting 10+ people!

Thats a grand for 5 hours work, I struggle to get anywhere near that whoring myself out to production companies!

I'm generally a fan of what Dave does, but this one has me puzzled -

Yet you seem to have to own or buy a 450X before the course ...?

Can't quite see how that fits in with the presumed lack of knowledge and confusion ...

Also £100 would buy you a couple of hours or so 1-to-1 which seems like a better deal?

At the end of the day you might not think it's worth it but others may not agree. Personally I've been on one of Daves courses, and have had flight training with him and every time I've been it's been very worth while.

was that 1-to-1 or in a group? I think the point Mark made was, if you consider that a 1-to-1 may cost you the same but the trainer may focus just on you and your needs that may have a different value, as well as pre-selecting a heli for you - as the 450X is a requirement ...

The course I went on was a group course. I think there were about 12 people there, a good number of them members from here.

Oh and as an aside, yeah maybe the 450X is a requirement. But isn't the 450X aimed at beginners? The same people this course is aimed at?

dont know which heli is really aimed at beginners as per production ... I believe it depends on too many aspects ...

personally I prefer a 1-to-1 every time over a group session ...

Don't get me wrong Pete, I'd regard handing Dave £100 as a very wise invesntment in most cases, it is just this particular course and the particular heli that has me confused.

i'm not having a go at dave or flying fish

but my lhs will check over a model that you've purchased from them and built tell you what you have done wrong and how to sort it out, if it is only a minor fix/set up issue they will show you there and then how its done
and test fly/drive/sail the heli/plane/car/boat for you and give you guidence on how to start flying for FREE
the only condition is that you have bought the model from them

they will help/set up a model purchased elsewhere at a charge


flying lessons from then on will be chargable

£100 to get a bnf heli going is a bit on the steep side
