Everyone is different, I know for myself the simulator just doesn't do it. I wish it did, but it really doesn't.

Having someone who can spot what you are doing wrong and help you correct it works better for some, but if you can manage on just the sim then that is great.

I can't disagree with this, I am just saying that learning to fly is easily achievable either way - lessons or self taught and self taught doesn't really mean crashing a lot or hovering tail in for years.

Having tuition is good imo. Or if you get to fly often with a good pilot (preferably BMFA instructor level) they can help by making you aware of any bad habbits (like walking out with your model but leaving the TX in the pit area ). Dave Fisher has the dream job doesn't he.

I'm the same Mark. I use the sim, but it just doesn't work well for me.

One thing the sim can't do is tell you why you're not getting something right, or where your weeknesses are.

To all those stating what a crap idea, and waste of money tution is, consider this; I've read countless threads from people who have said how good it was, how useful it was to have their flaws pointed out, how it helped their flying progress. For those people clearly they were happy and it worked. If you dont want to do it, then thats fine, but clearly it works for those that choose to take flyinfish lessons (and similar), so shall we just let these people run their businesses without shouting them down needlessly?

Pete has actually advertised the business and unless either he or FlyinFish are paying to do so then that is clearly a freebie over those that are paying to advertise on this site.

I only have a problem with being advised to get the Blade 450X of which I know nothing and it might not be any good.

Just to be clear I have no affiliation with Dave Fisher or FlyinFish. I'm just a happy customer of theirs and figured this might be of interest.

It's quite disappointing the reaction this has had really.

I wouldnt say he is advertising it actually; he is a happy customer who has stated his view on the training he received. Scoobystig on the other hand has simply advertised a business which he has an affiliation with, and this is in my view wrong. As far as I know, the way this site is run is such that anyone can say what they want about something they are unconnected with, but the moment it becomes an affiliated business, or something you stand to gain from, then its a different matter. I also understand you are not meant to deliberately take a thread "off topic".

In fairness to Andy, I think you are describing Pete's other thread ...

This one was pretty much a straight advert :
