  • hi everyone! some advice please!

hi there everyone! well ive just joined your forum ,and my first impressions are excellent!im currently learning with a rappy 30 v2 and a hawk pro with all carbon fibre extras available which i won on fleabay for £45 ! bargain! im more or less finished finishing it off but my questions are! would a carbon pushrod for rudder be better than the shaped wire and where can i get a throttle arm for a mds.38 which came with the hawk? desperate for one!and finally, when ive looked at the 38 ive noticed that theres nothing between the clutch bell and engine casing! is this correct or should there be a washer! look forward to reading your replys cheers

    Hi welcome to the forum,
you will find lots of advice on here about the world of helis,

    2 things

    1. not had a lot of experince with mds engines, all i know is that you steer clear of them, they are not very good, others on here with more experience of them will explain the reason,

    2. stick with learning on the rappy its a better heli than the hawk (ive been told).

ive got a carbon push rod on my rappy with a rear mounted servo, the wire run sometimes got stuck on the white rollers on my rappy
If You Cant Dazzle' Em With Brilliance, Baffle' Em With emmmm you know the rest

I just love this kind of advice
Please,Please enlighten us as to why the Raptor is a better heli to learn on than the Hawk pro

For what its worth I have both and have done so for years

The Hawk pro will out fly the rappy any day of the week (30 size)
Spares are as cheap and the parts last a lot longer before getting the same amount of slop with the exception of the counter gear shaft

The clutch is bullet proof and you will never have any woof and poof worries Get the hard dampener's anti rotation guide,do the counter gear mod and some lightweight paddles and the heli will last for years or until you crash it LOL
the MDS engine will be fine for hovering but that's about all (if you can get the MDS to run properly)it has way less power than an OS32 and is nowhere near as reliable

Get a carbon rod as the metal push-rod can flex under hard use
You should have a 9x14 washer between the engine and clutch (its a very thin washer) otherwise you will kill the front bearing very quickly

Now where the Raptor does score over the Hawk in all departments is the available upgrades that you can get especially in the bling dept

Ahh the ole which heli is better than the next routine lol. ...I own a hawk pro 30 with a toki 40 engine in it and it flies lovely. .... still learning here tho hehe ....I killed my Hawk the other week and it went inverted from 50 foot up full pitch and it hit the ground hell soooo hard ... the thing was still in one piece tho .... i cudda repaired it but for what the price of a full new kit costs i raided the good parts offa old one and will use em for spares on the new one ...... this is where the hawk wins in my opinion .... kill it and its only £135 for a new kit where a new raptor will run ya alot more .... true the raptor has alot more bling but for normal flying or for posing ya dont really need it all .........

You don't need any updrades on the Raptor 30 for learning. Spend your cash on more fuel - it's a much more useful investment.

              omg...

welll at the risk somebody trying to sue for libal im gonna pipe in here.

bladetrasher i rarely have to resort to this on heliaddict its normally something i only have to do over on RCgroups...

im sorry but i have never heard search a crock of poo...

simply not true. the control system on the raptor is vastly supperior to the hawks. Elevator intractions that you cant tune out and excessive loading on the output shafts of the servos. From what i have seen the hawk is more expensive to crash than the raptor. sure some individual bits are cheap but you need more of them.

The clutch is bullet proof and you will never have any woof and poof worries Get the hard dampener's anti rotation guide,do the counter gear mod and some lightweight paddles
never seen anybody own a hawk for long enough to have a clutch issue they aways realise how bad they are and buy something else. woof poof on raptors hasnt been a problem since the V2 appeared.

manager is right, raptors need no upgrades until you start throwing it around.

if somebody cant afford to go up to a 50 then i will recomend the raptor 30.

LOL Ade your having a laugh as soon as anyone mentions the hawk Pro your usually one of the first to say how crap it is

No need to apologize for giving your opinion though, I'm thick skinned and have my own opinion which just happens to be totally different from yours

simply not true. the control system on the raptor is vastly superior to the hawks. Elevator intractions that you cant tune out and excessive loading on the output shafts of the servos. From what i have seen the hawk is more expensive to crash than the raptor. sure some individual bits are cheap but you need more of them.
Strange how these things are never mentioned on RR in fact the only one that i do hear mention them is you

Now if the excessive loadings and interactions were that bad It would be plastered all over RR as any problem with any heli is (Please point me to some posts on RR or the Freak that back up your claims) case in point the counter gear shaft for the Hawks

Still just to put your mind at rest there is a CCPM conversion that you can get for the Hawk from Midlands for £25
As for crash costs you're kidding right LOL
The heli from new only costs £135 so how bad is that

Now how about listing some of the shortcomings on the Raptor
tail pitch slider wears out quickly
                Clutch doesn't last long
                Plastic head-block problems
                tail gearbox
                Pitchiness in FFF

Now other than the Counter gear shaft problem on the hawk pro which costs a couple of quid to fix and a bit of time
Both heli's will teach somebody to fly, When the time comes to start throwing the heli around most folks will have either moved on to a 50 size or bigger
but some will keep the 30 size and start to upgrade them
add another £55 to the cost of the Hawk pro kit and you get a heli that will still outperform the Raptor at less than the cost of the Raptor kit itself

Of course your well known hatred of Century products has nothing to do with how you post as soon as somebody mentions Century though or does it LOL

all mute points. knight 50 sport is well under 200ukp.

parts are cheaper than a raptor and a better head design means it flies better too. oh yes and it comes with CCPM as standard.

as for the lack of posts on RR/freak anybody that "slags off" century enough gets threatened with legal action.

                    LOL
But we are not talking about the Knight ( which is not a 30 size)but congratulations on getting it mentioned (again)
And yes it does fly better than the Hawk and the Raptor never said any different

I do slag Century off on RR especially Century UK still not had any warnings though and its virtually impossible to get a warning on the freak LOL

So again please point all on here to some threads LOL

Sorry, I hate to see people slagging off century, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the stuff that they sell.

<Stuart, Please can you hide this section from Century>
Every thing I said above was a lie in order to avoid being sued. I have a hawk sitting in my garage which is shockingly bad in design. To move the swash you need to attach a 6 man tug of war team to it and that's just for starters. IMO, all of the century machines that I've seen have been very poorly designed. They should stick to making their scale bodys...

Rappy is better than the hawk BY FAR...

thankyou for taking the bait :-)

seriously tho. you give somebody a POS and they will learn to fly on it eventually. you give the same person something with a good control system (inc gyro) and they get more confidence because the model is doing what they are telling it to do.

trust me... they learn a lot quicker.

Agreed, the Raptor is a good machine to learn on, as are the Trex 600n (sport) and Knight...There are several decent gyros available, the 401 would be most suited to beginners flying.
