I would definitely go with a ESP spec'd machine over a belt driven tail,
The tail aside you get a better machine out the box than you would buying a belt driven CF or GF heli, as they all tend to come with full metal heads/tails etc.
The TT on a 500 is extremely rugged and does stand up to abuse unlike the 600 that break as soon as you look at them wrong, i had 5 big crashes before i did a TT gear on the 500, If you really want a belt driven tail on the heli i would still buy the ESP spec and swap out the tail drive system.

I dont think you would want to go bigger ie 550 size as thats 30 size and although no fuel, equipment etc to lug to the field you still cant just grab it and fly it anywhere like a 500.

    Just my view

but main thing i think is spares. this flasher... how is it for spares and availability?
especially since i'm in west yorkshire too! but there's no prices on their website? who stocks these?

here is the dealer who you can buy it from, and lots of trex flyer buy flasher parts to fix their trex heli, which means trex parts will fit flasher heli as well.

have you considered a second hand trex 500. There are a couple of 500s for sale at the moment for imo a good price

I should note I do not know the person selling and so I am impartial. The ads just caught my eye and I would possibly be tempted if I wasnt in the process of getting an atom 500

I got a flasher 450 swash for my trex 450 and it works great in fact it's better than the original align one and the replacement align one I bought.

i have a flasher 500 and they are know different to the trex 500 (apart from 0.5mm thicker frames), same spares can be used from align or the cheaper flasher 500 spares but just as good.

Align has world domination with heli / spares available at every shop thats why alot of people have align helis (i have just got a align 450 v2 after having a belt cp).

its up to you and depends on how much money you have to start with, for me i got my 500 2nd hand off bmfa for £100 with a motor and esc / blades so that left me more money to spend on gyro / esc / servos / spares.

I second what Alex says.. You'll only end up spending more cash on upgrades, if you got another Align model!.. Just go for a ESP and as already mentioned.. parts are everywhere!!
