  • Best 500 Size?

    Hi

Been flying for a few months now and making some progress at last.

I started off on a Trex 450SEV2 which is great in calm days and has the advantage that I just leave it in the boot of the truck as the flying field is just over the road from where I work. I also purchased a Raptor 30V2 which is great but takes more planning to fly and I find it a bit of a pain having to load and unload at the office each time I fly.

I am thinking that he best solution would be to sell/exchange both of these for a decent 500 size. It would have the advange of plug in and fly whenever I get 10 minutes and again I could leave it in the truck. Like I said the Raptor is great if you can dedicate a few hours to flying but I just have to grab time when I can.

What would be the best 500 to look out for Trex?

    Thanks

How about 450pro nicely locked in when hovering & use same 3 cell batteries as your V2
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

I did look at that but wanted a bigger size heli than the 450.

        How about :

        Trex 500E (425mm blades)

        Atom 500 (430mm Blades)

Why not consider slightly larger size? A whole lot more stability

        Trex 550E (520mm blades)

        Atom 5.5 (515mm blades)*

*The Atom 5.5 is a stretch kit to add to the Atom 500

If I were to choose a 500 and have it as a main heli, I would no doubt keep to align. So many stockists of spares and you will never be in a situation the you have to wait for parts. I don't think any other manufacturer comes close to parts availability in the UK.

Myself, I decided to fly a 450 and 500 as a 450 is cheap to fly and crash.500 size generally hit the ground harder and breaks more things in a knock.

As to being the best 500, personally think there are better 3d machines, but you need to ask which one is best for your own needs....

Owning a protos 500, I'm waiting for parts myself as the 2 major stockists in the UK both don't have the part I need in stock and the mention of 3-4 weeks delivery!

I keep looking at the Logo 400 as my next 500 sized heli.
I just wish they would hurry up with the CF version

                  Best 500 Size?

                  I have a trex 500 ESP and it's
A great heli much more presence and stability than the 450 pro I would recommend one but I've not flown a logo 400 but have heard very positive things about em !

I would go for the Basic belt driven Align 500, cheep and plenty of spares and lipos are reasonable as well.

I bought my 500 second hand about two years ago, belt drive Spartan Gyro etc. moved up from just doing 8's etc now into tic tocs inverted and so on, it just gets better every time I fly it. I fly it in strong winds and in the park next to work, couple of packs lunch time then back in the car.

It's just great, not to big to get complaints but with a big Heli feel.

I started off using two of my 450 lipos which was OK for just hovering about but 6's are the way to go.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I have seen the Flasher and it does looks good value for money. Better get these current 2 on fleabay then and free up some spends!

You need to think of the way you are progressing, at the moment no doubt you are happy doing circuits and lazy 8's and going for a cheep copy of a Trex 500 would look like a good way to go but as your flying progress's you are going to find limitations with this heil, I would strongly recommend that you go with the Trex 500 as even in it's basic form it's a good flyer and as you progress you can tune this up to what ever level you want, I did a similar thing as you I went form a 250 up to a 500 and it's the best thing I ever did.

I dont think that you would be limited in what the machine can do if you went with a flasher instead of an Align 500.

The Flasher is just as capable as the Align imho

To be honest I could just keep the 450 as its so much fun but a bit skitish in a sudden side wind and you don't seem to suffer that with the Raptor but its such a pain to cart about setup and clean afterwards.
