  • Blade MSR = Poor

Well I was hoping to give the Blade MSR a second chance seeing as on the first run I did manage to take it outside and get a gust of wind take it over some trees at about 10m+ and ditch it into a road.

Well after some spare parts arrived I repaired it and have flown it extensively indoors. With adjustments as recommended on other forums which were superglue the grips where they overlap and superglue the end cap on the anti-torque motor. After a night of flying from about 8pm till about 1am and attempting to level the swashplate, which I've almost done, the following fault has come about.

The end cap on the anti-torque motor has seperated causing the helicopter to piroette on increasing of throttle.

So my verdict is the MSR is crap, all of those who think it is the bees knees.....try flying it some more.

I have no problems controlling it. I can spin it around a 3x4m lounge room and land it on a coffee table.

The problem is that it doesn't seem properly level and results in funny movements.

so you glued your tail motor's cap on but now the caps broken off?
What forums members suggested doing that?

We are all entitled to our opinions. I for one am loving mine. I have it in my office today and have been flying it around our conference room.

So far it's had some pretty major crashes. All I've changed thus far are the blade grips, and I only did this to be on the safe side whilst I did a mod on the original grips.

One must not forget that these things, IMHO, are not toys. Whilst they seem to be very robust, they will not take too much abuse. If people have purchased them thinking that they can fly into walls ad infinitum, then I think they were mistaken.

No heli, again IMHO, is ready to fly straight out of the box. Yes, they will fly of sorts, but not as they should. On trying to fly my T-rex 500 and 600 straight out the box, they too flew...towards the ground...leaving a pile of about a dozen sealed plastic bags and a canopy.

            I feel confident when I say that, if everyone thought their helis were crap because;
            • of a post crash incident
            • they didn't fly as we thought they might
            • they needed constant adjustment
            • they needed constant control input to keep them flying straight/level/whatever

then by using such criteria I think we'd all say all our helis were crap, eh?

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

Ive got nearly 100 flights on mine now with many crashes, it still looks and flies like the first day I got it. brilliant piece of kit IMHO.

Only "straight" out the box, after you'd spent hours putting it together, adjusting stuff etc.

Or did you buy them pre-assembled?

Mine followed the manual too. Being on the top of the box, that hit the ground first...

Just bought a load of parts for the MSR from Sussex Helicopters down in Forest Row. Big thanks to Dennis for staying open until I arrived (gone 5.30pm). Stayed and chatted to him until about 7pm and ended up walking away with an Align Trex 450 case for the B400. Lucky I didn't stay in his shop any longer otherwise I might of walked out with a few other things aswell

I like it when it's flying Just really think it could of been made a bit more robust and the spares reasonable. Even Dennis of Sussex Helis thought some of them were expensive. If you bought all of the spares singularly it would be more than an MSR BNF. So you might aswell buy a second and strip it for spares. You'd also have a set of 4 batteries then aswell.

The mSR isn't a special case there - every helicopter on the market costs more to buy in single parts than it does as a complete kit.

I guess some bits are expensive, but due to flying bigger heli's, I just don't see this as expensive... could have been cheaper I guess, but they hit the market with it at this price and have cleaned up so something is right.

                            Cheers,
