  • Still trying to fly my 4G1B!

    Hi all,

I've been following the RADD school of flying fairly well, and have now got my trainging gear on (and new blades).

    My questions for today are:

    1) When I've decided to have a go at hovering, on the few occasions I've been in the air for a few seconds the heli seems to make a noise like it does when it pairs with the trannsmitter, is this the gyro starting to work?

    2) Once one is in a hover, is it necessary to be constantly correcting the sticks to stay level? Certainally the MCX I have doesn't need to, but I understand that they are fundamentally different machines.

    Thanks

    1) No idea. Low battery warning?

    2) Properly trimmed, the helicopter should stay 'level', in that it will stay in whatever pitch/ roll attitude you put it in. It will however need constant correction to keep it hovering in one place rather than accelerating off in a random direction. When the heli is in the hover, it will have the rotor disk inclined at a slight angle to the right due to 'translating tendency'.

Thanks, it's not a low battery warning, I just wondered if gyros take a few seconds to 'find their bearings' once you're in the air. Thanks

Also, it seems to vibrate quotes bit. I've changed the blades, and I don't think they're any tighter than before. Is some vibration normal?

No, the gyro gets it's bearings on the ground, so you should avoid moving the heli for a few seconds after you've plugged the battery in.

Thanks I thought that was the case.

if you are getting vibrations, that wont be helping. Check for blade balance if at all possible, but possibly more likely (if you've had the odd crash or two) is something bent, either a feathering shaft or main shaft. Check those first. If you're not sure how, come back here for more advice.

Thanks. It could be down to my skids being broken, I've got some super skids on order. Nothing looks bent.

it's fixed pitch. Other than too tight or too loose how can they be adjusted?

I haven't adjusted anything other than a little trim. I don't really know how to. There's not a lot to adjust on these FPs is there?

walkera ....... with you now .....

                          Heres my view .......

You shouldnt get a double beep in the air ......... I would suggest a battery issue ......if transmiter is fully charged then it could be your Lipo .......

You may have a faulty lipo due to not holding a charge .........( running to low causes this as they have a memory )

Helis are like spinning plates ....................you are constantly playing the sticks to keep them stable ..................however it is worth eying down the links to make sure your head is level to the eye and does not require a couple of turns on the links ....

REMEMBER RTF actually means ready to FAIL !!

                          Hope this is of use

Thanks, it's not beeping, just seemed to have some servo 'chatter' like when it first pairs. I've now managed a short hover(ish) and am awaiting my new skids. Hopefully their broken connections explain the vibrations.

                            Thanks again

Right ............disconnect the battery and manually move the servo arms ........make sure they sound smooth ............any clatter at all means you have a stripped servo ..........if not ..........find out which one chatters and replace ............it sounds likly to me that you have a faulty servo which will DEFINATLY fail you in the air
