On my cellpro4 I usually scroll though the screens and look at the cell voltages at the start of the charge. I have made my own adaptors to plug lipos into my charger and this check showed up some of my dodgy lead manufacture, ie once it showed just 2 cells when it was a 3 cell pack. Now If I hadn't checked that I would have got 2 of the 3 cells charged as above. Depending on the order of connections and which one is missed some types of lipo will not error if one of the balance leads on the pack is disconnected - so it loks like a cell count check at the beginning of the charge is an essential, and the power lead connection on the 10S is a very good check.
At least your unflown lipo is almost certainly undamaged! And well done you for looking into theproblem rather than just assuming you got a duff lipo.
Now suppose you had a trex500 and it was an align lipo - chances are you would have just thought "align lipo" when it puffed and then plugged in a loverly top brand lipo just the same way and stuffed that one too!
