For what it's worth, I used to fly a Belt CP. It's not a great aircraft, but for the £50 or whatever the airframe cost, I thought it was perfectly servicable.

What finally drove me away from it was the cost of the spares: £6 for a main gear! £5 for a main shaft! (They're actually £2.50, but you had to buy at least two to have a hope of getting a straight one; I don't believe QC has improved). The alloy head feathering spindles are only available individually at £3 a time. I guess buying in bulk from abroad might save a bit, and there are now aftermarket and substitute bits available. The cheapest place I found for belt cp spares in the uk was Heliguy.

jbowerok, go to boggy thread and made the mods he has done mate it tames it right down for you, also make sure you got it set up right that makes a big difference, i was like that and now i can hover great apart from tonight when i got to clever for my own good and CRASHED it again at flying field wouldn't mind one of the Helli lads said i was doing great and to start hovering side on but ohhhh no not me started doing lazy 8's and went dumb thumb not much damage though feathering shaft obvious and i bet main shaft blades sound them feathering shafts are like toffee, but if you gonna learn you gotta do it. I think heli-jg should get a contra for first helli, but if he has dosh a 30 nitro size thats the route i would take if i was starting out from scratch again the 30s are far more stable for learning on.

Not necessarily Nitro but in general the larger the helicopter the more stable it is and the less affected by wind, you can get 60 size electrics the only thing with going the electric route is battery price and they are pricey for the good batteries, but that said so is fuel and you need to look at batteries as usable commodity just like fuel I dont now off hand what the compassion is £ for £ but i would imagine running cost overall for electric would be less, and not as messy as Nitro but then a gallon of fuel goes a fair way and you dont need to take chargers with you to the field, im sure others with more experiance on both systems will advise you on differance better than me.

Done some sums on Electric vs Nitro
Battery Trex 500 Lipo-30c 22.2v 2100 £101, if you take care of battery 300 cycles = 0.33p per flight, 1 gallon nitro fuel £14 average 24 flights per Gallon = 0.58p per flight, so the winner would be Electric and no messy fuel and engines to rattle your cage.
