For having tested myself 3 different Spektrum satellites directly connected to the BeastX, some satellites start working strange when voltage goes above 5.5V (loss of signal, even binding was not working with one of them).

An easy solution if you power your beastx with a 5V BEC is to put two diodes in series (kind of a double stepdown) to go from 5V to 3.8V.

The best solution is to put a 3.3V regulator so that you can power your beastx with any voltage, this is what the genuine beastx cable is using.

    Hope this helps,

    Vincent

Here's how to make it, the picture says it all.

Get a Spektrum satellite lead from the local LHS at £2.99 and splice in half (yo can make 2 ) or if you are the fussy type get a male connector (socket type) for about £1.50 and you can make one that looks exactly like the one on beastx website.

now connect the these wire up for the Spektrum cut leads (same method applies for the male socket connector just follow the leads in the pic).

Spektrum orange to servo wire red

Spektrum black to servo wire black or brown depending on your servo lead

Spektrum grey to servo wire orange or white

a bit of heat sink and that's it, plug it to the beastx bind and away you go .

Any joy with this as I'm having trouble trying to find the genuine article and I'm considering going down this root.

for me it works with no problems but if your doesn't bind then add a step down on the red and black wire, like this one

1.5A Low Dropout Positive Voltage Regulators : Voltage Regulators : Maplin
        Trex 700N LE FBL
Trex 600N DFC, OS 55HZ, Vbar
        Trex 600e FBL, 12s Scorpion 630kv, Vbar
        Trex 500e FBL, Scorpion 1400kv

I just measured the output from the Rx in my 450, and it's 3.2 V.

Maybe it would be a good idea to put a comment into the first post that the voltage is wrong. I'm glad I read the whole thread.

It's a very very very bad idea to run modern electronics at a higher voltage than it was designed for.
          We're almost at a factor of 2 if it's a 6 V ESC...

So am I right in saying that if you plug the sat into the beast x you won't need the spectrum rx or have I got the wrong end of a long stick lol.

I tried a three-diode stepdown which gives the nominal 3.3 V (from 5.5), but suffers from brownouts once the servos start moving.
Two diodes will probably work. If I can afford the extra components putting 10 uF / 100 nF caps in parallel at the output won't hurt in any case.

Ok guys I've just done This and checked with the scope. £2.40 parts

The pictures should speak for themselves but post if you need answers. Tested to 2s lipo but should handle significantly more. Spec says 30v!!!!

Receipt is from Maplins. You only need one of the two minelect capacitors.

Photo of scope on power output. The ripple that you see was on the scope before attaching.

Sorry for the rough sketches and the doctors handwriting.

One is circuit diagram and other is layout onto a 2 x 7 strip of veroboard.

                  Hi all,
Sorry to revive such an old thread but I have a question which might be pertinent now.

Would it be ok to use the Tarot Spektrum sat adaptor cable in place of the beastx one?

Reason I ask is because I happen to have one and can't see any reason why they would be much if any different?

Also for anyone who needs to buy one the Tarot ones are about £2.
                  Cheers D

I dont see any reason not to they are just sensibly priced regulators. dont try and run it at 5v the chips are only good for 3.6 maximun (http://www.cypress.com/?docID=28606 ) The processor is good for 5v but not the transanciver chip.

Should work fine. It'd be easy to test.

Plug it in and see if it provides a solid 3.3 v on the output. Try this with servos attached and loaded.

Ps my Maplin supply done 6 flights every weekend until a fortnight ago when I finally upgraded from a beast to a vbar on my 500.

Not sure I understand Chris, surely you don't mean easier to buy another than use the one I have???

Using 4 NiZn's I get 7.4v in to the RX and at the pins of the RX, metering out the adaptor lead I get 3.39v so I guess I'll give it a go!

Im thinking same as tried making my own lead and got one of wires wrong result £20 fried sat, also tried lead I got from HK it binds ok but just won't arm light on beastX just keep scrolling

£15 a lot of money for a wire but it's cheaper than a fried sat think ill have to buy as got a 250 Dfc sat there unable to fly
