I smashed the vbar in a crash and it has damaged the tail sensor. I have hit a brick wall with all the red tape as although I am registered with mikado, I have no devices in my name and as I've had them a while I have no idea who I bought them from to change ownership and without that I can't send it back for service. It does my head in that they have made everything so damn confusing.

If the v-bar still powers up and you can connect it to the software then take a screen shot of the application that shows the serial number. Save the screen shot as a bitmap image and e-mail it to Mikado. There is details of this somewhere on the vstabi website about registering v-bars this way.

Ideally, get the V-Bar fixed, but until you do....

Give the 3GX a try. I had a 3GX on a 450 and it was absolutely fine. Felt different to the V-Bar (not bad, just different) but you'll soon get used to it. I'd like to try one on a 700 just to see what it's like (but have V-Bars on those and can't be bothered to swap them over!)

            I've got my eye on a 450L which I run with the 3GX (v3.1)

            Cheers

If Duncan won't use one on his 700's why would you Pete. Why use something that doesn't work, even Ian is telling everyone to go with 3.whatever and he's the most committed 3GX fan out there. If their top notch pilots can't release something that works IE 4.something why would anyone tempt fate.

I don't get it I have to admit, why would we the blade ruining public continue to support something that doesn't work. Jesus, even HobbyKing can copy something that does

                Hi Dave,

I think we have to remember that Duncan is absolutely at the top of his game and knows exactly what he wants from his model (as do Storick, Robertson, Mott etc) all of which use V-Bar. But that's not the point. These guys earn a living from what they do (or at least partly) and so it becomes a different game.

The 3GX does work in my experience (albeit on a 450) and I'd happily use one again. Would I like to try one on a 700 - yes. Would I remove my V-Bar to do so - no.

The OP explained he has a 3GX to go on a 450 hack. I can't think of a better way to try one and satisfy the curiosity

pete i fly with one of the listed pilots and he uses a 600 for all the 3gx testing that he does
he has tried a few fbl units and the 700 comp machine has a vbar
but the 3gx'd 600 looks to fly well in his hands
then again he could get a brick to look good whilst it was flying
the only comment he ever makes on the 3gx is about the tail

Bang on Pete, I've bought into the '3gx is cack' mentality without actually trying one per se. It's cheap and I'll get my money back if I don't like it. My learning curve and reactions are sharper since I last actually had a flight with one and tbh I'm not even sure it was setup properly then so the very worst is I have to repair a 450 lol

I think youll be fine Don, your not stupid, and know how to setup a heli. Worst case you dont like it and lose a tenner for the privelege.

I will happily give anything a go, testament me trying a Turnigy 3D-H on a 600. After all anything goes wrong it's only a 600 . The 3GX does work, of course it does, I've seen the Align team fly it for the last 4 or 5 years or so. What can I glean from the fact that none of them fly it on any of their helis, maybe the 450 and maybe a 550 for testing. I'll tell you what, it's full of issues. They release V4 to much applause and accolade, Kenny Ho makes it look like the most locked in fbl unit on the planet and we all fall for it. But wait a minute, most of the ungifted amongst us have our hard earned tip over, another set of 690's Mr Align please, it doesn't piroette for toffee, take a look on the Freak.

When there are sorted units on the market for not much more I don't get why anyone would want to bother. Sorry Kev, doesn't matter whether you can setup a heli or not or whether stupid or not, they don't perform well enough for the masses. Thats a fact. Pete, leave your V Bar on mate

its an alright unit for the price u can pick them up nowadays, flew one on a 500 with 3.0, didn't like 3.1 but otherwise i thought it was quite good, though i never really pushed it to its limits unlike some in here would do :P lol

Im not saying its a good unit Dave. You know my preference. Im only saying that the only way for Don to be certain is try it himself. At worst he'll be a tenner down after re-selling it, obviously if it doesnt cause a tip over or anything.

After the debarkle of the other day Ill not be telling people whats good or not cos i dont want another dressing down by a V-Bar fanboii.

I run 3GX V4.0 on my 450 and 700e. Both run beautifully. I think it's a bit of the Skoda mentality, you can't quite get past the 'past' or the name. But use one and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I've only ever run 3.1 or 4. Never had a tip over. I can spool up into idle1 and move the cyclic about no problem. Just pop it in the air and it's good to go. They are easy as peas to set up and you don't need a £50 'pod' to make changes at the field.

I was the first engineer in our company to have a Skoda as a company car, a Superb in 2004, a lovely car. A Passat witha green badge

I will say one thing though, you're right Kev it's up to the person themself to make the choice.
