I don't suppose there are many people unaware of the issues the weather has been causing in the south-west. The field at Charmouth gets very boggy even after a little rain, never mind what has come down recently. I'm going to go up and have a look at the site next week, but Newlands confirmation date is this Friday (14th).

The AHA committee is considering cancelling the event, as its unlikely even the second field will be useable. However, I'm still intending to go just for the "social", and I suspect some others may want to do the same. I'll also enquire if there's a sports hall we could hire for some indoor activity. This would necessarily entail an entry fee, I guess, but if its possible, would anyone be interested?

Shame, as this year is the 40th Anniversary, and we were hoping to make it special. Realistically, if the event goes ahead, the farmer is going to make a fortune in towing fees!

    Comments, anyone?
    Pete

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

It will be a great shame if it is cancelled as Ive enjoyed the last 2 years catching up with people after the winter. However I can imagine the field to be totally unusable this year as you would expect with many of the surrounding areas being flooded etc !

Would it be a review of the date Pete or as I'm reading into your post cancellation.

I don't think any single person would begrudge a farmer a few bob for pulling your vehicle to safe ground.

If they do then stay at home or leave it stuck in the field hahaha.

It would be a great shame if its cancelled! I know a lot of us will be gutted!

Is there nowhere near by with hard ground? Where it could be relocated? Surely there is somewhere else?

Can the field really be that bad - isn't it at the top of a hill on a slope?

The issue tends to be the entrance to the field more than anything else.

Would be a great shame if the event is cancelled. This is the season opener, if it's cancelled then the first official event will be Zone in May ... that seems a long way away

I remember a few years back when the field was boggy, cars were parking on the side of the road outside the event field, is this not possible now ?

Is a revised date an option?
                        Maybe a month later?
October was my first time attending and the weather couldn't have been better

I'm really looking forward to going again and would rather see the date put back a bit than see it cancelled

We are currently trying to get the confirmation date for Newlands moved back by a week. If Newlands will agree to this, it should give everyone time to re-assess the situation once I've done a site inspection. Newlands have, in the past, allowed small helis (up to 450 size) to be flown in the top field on site. We are also confirming that this will still apply. We are also looking for sports halls in the area that may be available for an indoor event. Given the fact that we won't have to hire the field or portaloos, there *may* be enough in the kitty to still offer free entry. Depends on what we can get.

If all of these come off, we could still run a Charmouth fly-in - just not as big an event as usual. Given the difficulties everyone in the South-West is currently experiencing, this is probably the best we can expect!

As far as the main (or even secondary) field are concerned, I suspect that even the big 4x4s would be struggling to get in or out. Campers, vans and cars would stand no chance.

Anyway, watch this space! We'll do everything we can to organise something. Hopefully we'll be luckier in the Autumn, and make up for the Spring event then!

Hi All, Is there any further news if the event is going to go ahead or being moved to another weekend. Have Newlands agreed to move the date back by a week.
