Thanks guys for your advise it's appreciated :-)
I have decided to go for the DX8 as the transition from my DX7 will be easier, also the fact the timer alarm is loud & vibrates, so no more over drained lipos!

Good choice - even though I have the DX7s I would recommend the DX8 over it, to anyone, if only for the backlit display....

Just re visiting an old thread from a search as i am in need of a new Transmitter. I can hover nose in , tail in side on ok ish, i can do circuits, lazy 8's and loops, i can flip but my fingers just cant seem to handle inverted hovering, even after many hours on the sim . So my real question is, there is about £100 between these base models, the DX7s and the DX8 that is, is the difference between these that far ?, all the opinions seem to lean towards the DX8, but as said above.....

is it really worth spending the extra dosh at my level just for the back light lol, or seriously, is it really that much a worth while investment over the DX7s.

Prices are closer than that, try Inwood Models for example with the DX7S at £139.99 and the DX8 at £199.99.

For a £60 difference I'd rate the back light along with extra flight mode and 3 position switches as worth it.

There are extra flight modes with the DX8 as well as the backlight. My feelings are that the DX8 is more of the norm on this forum and as such it is easier to exchange settings and info.

However if you want to 'buck the trend' or are on a budget you will find the DX7s to be a very capable transmitter and quite a joy to use.

Ok, I have got more used to mine now and I don't find I have use for the third flight mode ( they are so easy to program on the fly anyway ). I still miss a backlight though, mostly when setting up or experimenting, but I use a head torch instead, which also helps when looking at servo movement etc you can pick one up for less than £10 and keep it in your flight box.

At the end of the day the choice is yours. I don't think I will be in a hurry to trade in my DX7s - not now I've got used to it......

Cant beat JR quality, Had the 9 great radio then sold it to buy the dsx 11.
Life’s journey is not to arrive gracefully and quietly at the grave ontime and in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, very late shouting ‘Holy Shit!!! What a Ride!!!’”

So the debate goes on lol. I know the Jr radios are the same as spektrum, except the formers build quality is supposedly better or is better, but would there be any major problems jumping from one to the other, I have only used spektrum since getting into the serious side of this hobby, the world of rc that is, not just heli's

If only it was that simple

The build quality is better, no doubt on that one, but the newest JR radios do not use Spektrum technology any more and the older JR models only use DSM2, not DSMX.

If you need Spektrum compatibility avoid any JR radio that uses 'XG' in the model description.

The DSMX issue is not a great problem as all DSMX receivers work with DSM2 transmitters, but if for some reason you really want DSMX, you won't be able to get that with a UK legal JR radio.

Ok so what about a JR PCM9XII, with a suitable module. And i understand that it cant model match, can this be done with this radio with the right module or is it not worth it, is really that much better than the DX8.

                          DX7s, DX8 or JR DSX9?

I got the Dx8 whilst owning a pcm9xii which had a spektrum dm9 module fitted. Took me maybe 3 flights before I sold the Jr, and I loved that tx ! .
Why? When you are ACTUALLY flying the dx8 feels nicer. When not flying, and looking and fiddling with them the jr maybe feels higher quality. But let's face it, you use a tx to fly. The dx8 for me just flys better.
