  • DX7s, DX8 or JR DSX9?

    Hi,
I'm wanting to replace my tired DX7 and just wondered what the best options are, they need to be compatible with my existing Spektrum rx's
I can't seem to get on with gyro set up on the DX7.
So, based on budget i'm looking at the following:
    DX7s, DX8 or (JR DSX9 at a push)
Just wondered what your thoughts were based on experience.

    Thanks,
    Dan.

A used DSX9 MK2 - great feeling radio with a nice easy to read and program backlit screen . I think Jamin_00 (Ben) has one for sale. If you need telemetry and a throttle timer that starts and stops with the throttle below a certain value then the DX8.

          Thanks,
I like the idea of the throttle timer, i find the DX8 a bit bulky but it's nothing i couldn't get used to.

One other problem i have find with my DX7 is, i can't hear the alarm go off on the timer, and end up running lipos a bit too low!

dx7s/8 is louder than the old 7 or, you might need a hearing aid. they vibrate so hearing shouldnt be a problem

Hearing aid? i'm not that old yet! lol. could always nick the wife's baking timer, or my son's old style Mickey mouse alarm clock, or even take off 5 mins before church bells go off!
Hope you are doing ok after the crash.
                Thanks,

The 9 is a great radio. I got the MKII as an upgrade from my MKI only because I wanted the backlight screen and timer to be activated by throttle as its a great radio I did not want to change. I went to this from a normal DX7 although I brought an 8 I sold it before I even used it to get a 9

Im now selling my 9 MKII to get the 11 Cant beat JR quality for Speccy tx's

But all 3 you listed are great and will do the job as good as the next.

timer to be activated by throttle??
On the DSX9II I understand that the time is started when you move the throttle up from the bottom position,
Am I right in saying that when you pull the stick right back to the bottom it pauses the timer?
which is ideal if you fly planks, because when you pull the stick back when flying planks you are not using any power to the motor,
But with heli's, if you pull the stick back when you are running a flat throttle curve,
say for inverted, the motor is still pulling power from the battery, but your timer has been paused by the throttle position?
Or is there a setting where the timer is just started when the throttle stick position is moved of the bottom and does not pause when it is returned to the bottom?
                      am I missing something?

The timer can be started by the throttle but only stopped / paused by the assigned timer switch.

Thanks for reply, thought you might have a setting to do this,

DX8 may not be the prettiest or best to hold, but coming from a DX7 the transition is absolutely simple and it has all you need for 3D helis.

Good point, it would save me messing around too much with a complete new set up.
