Some newer receivers may have the updated software already.
Very interesting, RR thread here in particular Paul Beard’s posts (Spektrum designer)
    http://runryder.com/helicopter/t392890p1/

Some newer receivers may have the updated software already.

Please bear in mind that most people have not had problems so it seems pretty decent that Spektrum is offering free programming updates, for what is in effect a product upgrade. Hope this will be the same for the UK.

I’ll be contacting Horizon Hobby UK some time next week to arrange to get my 5 receivers reprogrammed. For the past AR6100 reprogramming, you foot the bill to send them in and they covered return postage costs, hope it will be the same for this!

If you have a number of Spektrum receivers installed in models it is quite an undertaking to remove them for updating.
The demonstration reconnection speed was pretty convincing to me though.

Seems like there is more to reprogramming than I thought, thread here
        http://www.helifreak.com/showthread....357#post551357
shows the reprogramming pins on the pcb. It’s not just a question of plugging into one of the servo sockets.

The cases need to be opened, which I am sure is easy except for the fact that mine have blobs of glue to support the aerials. Guess I will have to cut this off before sending them in (the glue not the aerials)! Also the satellites have to be programmed individually to the main receiver.

            Hi Carpman,

I wouldn’t worry about the CX2, this probably uses a 4 in 1 combi unit & I doubt they will be reprogramming these.
As to the Blade 400, this uses a proper AR6100e receiver which could be reprogrammed. However the speedo supplied with the blade has probably been specifically tested to supply enough power to the supplied rcgear. If however you decide to upgrade say your servos & gyro in the future you could be drawing more power & potentially be more at risk of bec related issues. If you plan to upgrade your electronics or use you receiver in a different model then I would consider getting it updated.

The other thing is that if your Blade is New it may already have the updated software. I think you could test it (remove blades before hand) by disconnecting then battery & then reconnect again within 15 seconds (leave the transmitter turned on). If the receivers leds flash on & off (like in the youtube clip) but you have full control, then you have Quick connect.

I phoned up Horizon Hobby UK today and they are aware of the programming update and will be offering reprogramming. Tech support/repairs only work week days so I will get details of how to send in on Monday.

I've just had the cowling off a BCX2 ('latest edition'), and it's got an AR6100e.

                As you can see from:

                http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Su...rodID=EFLH1250

"E-flite Blade CX2 (EFLH1250) models shipped from Horizon Hobby after August 30th, 2007 include the following Important Product Update notice:"

"Inner Shaft With Aluminum Head/Hub (EFLH1240)"

                "Spektrum AR6100e 2.4GHz DSM2 Microlite Receiver (SPMAR6100E)"

If a BCX2 came with the alloy head hub (flybar holder), it has a 3-in-1 and an AR6100e, like the Blade 400. Cool

I don't expect to get mine reprogarmmed, though.

The new cx2 are a good deal because you can use the receiver in another model in the future say to reduce the cost of getting say a Trex450.

I’ve got two of the 4 in1 units which I am not even going to ask about reprogramming.
To be honest I have never had any power related reset issues with any of my Spektrum gear, but I keep reading about them on the forums & it worries me seriously. Most recently Ashley Davis Trex500 crash and I have been thinking Futaba don’t seem to have so many of these issues. This reprogramming won’t cure brown outs due to poor bec’s but it will allow control to be regained faster reducing the risk of a crash.

I have spoken to Horizon Hobby UK service engineer and will be sending all my receivers to them for the ‘Quick Connect’ programming update. They do in fact have to open the casings up on the receivers & all satellites to reprogram. I will try to remove my aerial supporting glue blobs to make it easy for them & cause I will probably do it more carefully!

I hope to have time to remove all mine from thier models over next few evenings, and they said they would try to turn them round in a few days. Mark as for Quick Connect programming update, and include your details.

I sent mine in to horizon on Tuesday came home to find they had been returned today (Thursday). I am very pleased by their speed. There isn’t a sticker to indicate the update but ‘QC’ is written on the cases which I guess stands for Quick Connect.

Not had time to power up & test, but will over the next few days.

Quick Connect programming update & Return post is free,
The only cost is your postage to Horizon, cost me under £5 to send in 5-off receivers as a package.

Thats what I thought at first, and if it was on from New it would make sense but,

After having it written on after the 'Quick Connect' update, I think it refers to that. Bear in mind that some mark is required as 'Quick Connect' updated satelites need to be used with 'Quick Connect' mains and many people have lots of recievers.

I am still busy re-glueing all my aerial!
