  • Which first radio?

    Hi all

I've spent many days reading thread upon thread and am slowly getting overloaded with info but I expect to do more reading before buying my first heli.

My first purchase is going to be a radio and sim. I had been advised that a spectrum dx6 and Phoenix sim would be a great start. My long term plans would be to start with an mcxp and move to a trex 500.

Is the dx6 sufficient for my needs? I have seen a decent deal on a dx7s and sim for 215 which seems good to me.

I've decided to go new as the difference between new and 2nd user isn't worth the saving in my opinion.

    Many thanks

    Alan

    Hi

The DX6i is a great radio and will see you through the beginning stages but if you know your going to stick with the hobby I would invest in a better radio like the DX7. It will give you better scope for future models and has more in the settings for better programmability.

Phoenix is the way forward when your starting out. It will get your thumbs and mind in the right places a lot quicker and cheaper. I find my MCPX perfect for garden practise and it crashes very well (cheaply).

    Good luck and enjoy yourself

    Just my opinion

        Alan,

My suggestion would be that you buy the best radio you can afford. I had a DX6i for about a year and flew everything from a mCPX to a 700 nitro on it. It was a good TX but I soon grew out of it. The DX7 is a better radio and will see you through to the larger heli's without having to fudge things a bit and as Rich says has better programmability.

The other thing I'd suggest is once you've got your heli, finding your local club and joining as it's much easier to learn to fly in a club than by going solo.

Good luck whichever way you go, be prepared to be happy but skint!!

As the guys above have said the dx 6 i looks a good tx but i would buy the dx7s or dx8 to be future proof and you will always have enough channels

I'm getting the skint feeling already and I've not bought anything yet. I'm going to start with a sim and indoor model (as mentioned) but I've also got a couple of guys in my work who are experienced which will help.

I have been advised the dx7s would be better than the dx6 so I'm happy with that choice, I don't think I can justify the jump to a dx8 just yet. I know the 7 will do what I need when I get the 500.

I just wanted to make sure there weren't any others at this price level I should be looking at?
