Would like a new radio any suggestions?

Hi Guys,

After reading RCM&E this month I've learned of the telemetry functions now availble built in on some radios so I think an upgrade is due soon. I'm currently running a slightly outdated 35mhz Futaba T7CP. I don't have many models and really only require a max of 3 receivers at any one time. I'd really like to upgrade to 2.4ghz and also telemetry. My budget is around £300 to include at least 7 channel radio, 1 reciever, 1 telemetry receiver + receiver battery guage, engine temp and fuel level indication. RPM would be nice as well. Can anyone offer suggestions?

Both more than your budget,but the dx8 or Aurora 9 would be ideal for your telemetery needs

..personally wouldnt bother if it is only telemtry you want.

Or go for the 8FG

I think the dx8 is now on sale between £250 & £300 in some shops. I'd forgotton about the aurora 9, I used to fly with some guys that loved hitec but asthetically its not the best imo. Thanks for suggestions.

Just out of interest, as I have only owned Futaba gear in the 15 years I've been in the hobby, do futaba have a telemetry system yet and if not is there any clue as to whether they will produce one or not?

The intention is to roll out updates for those radios capable of being updated (8FG, 12FG FX series).

Exactly what the capabilities of the updated radios will be is unclear at the moment, but it is on the way.

Hey buddy

I used the Futaba 8FG last year. Good radio with a lot of great functions but no telemetry as yet.I have just moved over to the DX8. I have found it super easy to use with a nice feel to the quad bearing gimbals. It is also telemetry ready.

Based on your needs I'd suggest the DX8 or the new DX7s.

Dx8 is a great radio with some nice futures and very user friendly. I had no problems with it at all..... and I love mine.

Yes the 8fg may be better radio, but just don't do much for me. It feels akward in my hands and the menu......... oh my ...... I hate it.

I quess best advice will be to try both and see how it feels to you.

I really like my hitec A9

Been a futaba man my whole life and last had the 8super.

Honestly wouldn't go back after using this now.
