  • DX7 range problem

Today didn't start too well. after finding and fixing a loose nut on the tail slider of my 450 pro I had a gentle hover. Then lost all control and no throttle. as it nearly hit the green grass it established control again and only a broken skid was the damage.
back in the pits the lights were still on the the rx and the satellite. re bind and tried a range test, and got intermittent signal at about 40m. tried with a different model with intermittent problems again.

DX7 could have trashed my helis today. is it time for a new tx?
will send DX7 back to Horizon Hobby for a check, but lost all confidence. Thanks Callum for lending me you tx which got me going again for a great afternoon of flying.

has anyone experienced this type of problem with a DX7? it's not the battery as it has a new voltz 2500 tx lipo.

40m is fine for a range check if you held the button down on the back of the tx??

Which receivers are you using in the models you range tested?
Did you allow for carbon fibre frames when placing the antennae?

receivers are AR6210 with satellite. both models have been fine up until today. we re bind the models to Callums DX7 and all was fine so I have no reason to doubt the receivers installation. DX7 can now join the DX8 doubters !!

I should have a look at the antenna cable and conections to the RF PCB yourself before you send it back - could be something easily identified.

yep we checked that and made sure it was pressed on properly and also made sure that the antenna cable was not twisted but still the same results. I think it's gotta go back to HH.

AAh. I see. Then you may well have a Tx fault.
Have you had the DX7 long?

If it IS a faulty Tx that doesn't automatically put it in the same league as the DX8 for trust or lack of.
The DX7 has established a track record for reliability over quite some time.
While that won't make You feel any better, being the one to get the odd one with the fault, it does mean that the rest of the DX7 owners needn't start worrying that their Tx is a turkey Just yet.

yep I think that I should just send it back to HH for an inspection. I'm not against buying a DX8 but I would still like the 7 to be fixed.

Called HH this morning. Their "On Hold" music is the cheesiest music i've heard in ages !! Worth a call just for a listen. Star Trekking accross the universe... LOL.

Anyway the DX7 is now on its way back to them to see if they can find the problem.
Hope they sort it as I want to go flying again :-(

I experienced short range on my DX7 recently, so because of concerns over the flexing of the wire inside the aerial I changed the aerial assembly and all has been well since. I did wonder about duff connections within the range/binding switch on mine. as this style of push switch are notorious for generating noise and poor connections in old audio amplifiers etc due to the contact sets becoming oxidised and this will happen more when the switches go for periods of time without being used, as there is no mechanical wiping action to help clean the contacts.

Would be interesting to hear of other peoples experiences with this one.

The aerial cable was slightly twisted but nothing that I would have been concerned about. Even after straightening it still had the same issue.
It will be interesting to see what HH have to say though.
I just want a working TX again !

I've a DX7. Worth checking things out. Did the tx make the usual noise when not in range check? The noise comes from the rf output and disappears if you go into range check. Any tx can fail though.
