I have not noticed any noises coming from the RF stages of my DX7 in any mode, even when using the simstick on Phoenix in a quiet room - mind you at my age the hearing is probably not as sensitive as it used to be!!

Mines a few years old now. I asked Hobby Hangar if it was ok and they said it was, and it was just feedback. Perhaps they modified the feature on later models. It's not that high by the way.
I range check my DX7 before every first flight at the field. For no other reason that I did it with 35meg so it made sense for me to continue to do so. I do this with the bind button pressed & get a minimum of 70 paces every time. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of these radio's in use and it is inevitable that there will be failures etc but its no where near as bad as the DX8 & i'm sure that HH will sort you out
