  • Telemetry Temperatures

Well it was bound to happen, so here is the first of I'm sure many posts asking this question. What sort of temperature should you be peaking at on a 91sr, and also an OS55?

I've just been out for a test fly of a new (2nd hand half gallon old) engine and also to test the telemetry which I've just installed on the N9, and while I only had 1 tank and only had a quick fiddle, I saw a max temp of 121 degrees c, but the engine was still rich, back plate cool, and bogging on sustained tic-tocs; I could see and hear it's gonna want leaning a touch more. I've installed the temp sensor in the top fin of the engine case, pushed in nice and tightly between the fins.

I'm really looking for answers from people who have already run theirs DX8 telemetry, but all replies welcomed. I remember the carb smart having 4 settings from 90-130 degrees c, so I must be in the right ball park.

Is the telemetry shown in real time on the screen of the dx8 then?
Can see this actualy being a major advantage for comp flying.

Yep and you can see receiver voltage and engine rpm if they ever sell the sensor

you can set an alarm for the telemetery so no need to try to look at the screen, also im sure you can use the governor sensor and a y lead for RPM

Martin, you can see it real time, but more importantly you set warning levels, which if hit will set off an audible alarm and vibration. Very very useful, and in use works very well, if i knew what sort of temps I should be hitting!

Isnt this giving people an advantage in competition?
              I'm suprised it's not banned.

Not really, theres nothing to stop you putting a data logger on board before the comp, setting the engine up in the same way, then going out and flying

                    I don't get it...... why?

Its not a race ?! It just helps prevent motors overheating and going pop.

I would say it gives the guy with it an unfair advantage for one.
Not saying it should be banned just saying im suprised it's not.

But you cant adjust the mixture in flight? Surely a carb smart is more of an "advantage"?

But you can jamie, OS have a system
that allows on board mixture control.
Now you have direct feedback from your model
you can adjust to get max poke for your routine
literaly straight after take off, even in mid routine
if your tx is shakeing at you shouting "too hot too hot"

Everbody will now be forced to buy into telemetry
to be up there in the power stakes.

Nah not at all. Like i already said, Carb smart would be more of an "advantage" if you chose to see them as that. For me it just stops me toasting an enngine mid flight. I rarely touch the needles, so its just a case that it lets me set it properly once then lew the warnings keep an eye on the temps and voltages of the rx packs/flight packs.

I don't really see how its such an advantage in "competition" flights? There are numerous data loggers, and on board temp probes available already, so not sure how different this is, other than being more convienient.
