  • Hitec Aurora 9 - Q&A

I think there are now a few of us using this new radio so I'm sure we can help with any questions from prospective buyers and provide a little feedback on the experience so far.

I'll add a few photos to this post later today so if there is anything specific you want to see just ask.

I'll kick off with a few observations.

Unlike Spektrum/JR we don't have to worry about CE compliance when deciding where to buy as it seems Hitec are shipping the CE version everywhere.

In the USA, the importer there has a great offer running until the end of next month which provides a 2nd 7 channel receiver free and a 3rd at half-price so it softens the cost of changing and replacing receivers in the process.

This is an offer from the importer not Hitec, so don't expect to see this one in the UK, but even over here, the price of this radio and the receivers compares very well to the alternatives.

One of the big plus points on this radio for me was the knowledge that both the TX and RX can be upgraded by the end user with a small low cost device PC interface device called the HPP-22

The same device also allows you to load/save configurations from your TX so no more making notes on bits of paper.

As standard the Aurora provides telemetry between the RX and TX and displays the RX pack voltage on the TX so it is easier than ever to make sure you don't push things too far. Additional sensors are due later this month offering things like RPM, temperature, fuel levels and even GPS.

Additionally the RX provides an alternative power connection which can be fed direct with up to 35V so you can bypass the regulator/ESC/BEC and take a parallel feed direct from a lot of LiPo packs which means the TX will show actual pack voltage and you don't have to worry about low-voltage brown-outs due to your servos competing with the RX for power from the regulated circuit.

Enough for now though, I'm sure others have good/bad points to add and some of you may have questions that need answering.

    Hope this helps.

I have a question it's okay receiving information like: RPM, temperature, fuel levels and even GPS.

Now who is Stupid enough during a flight to actually look at the dam tranny ?????

On a similar note, I'm wondering if this tx can actually log telemetry data for later analysis, like an Eagle Tree system? Or can you set alarms to indicate when a certain temperature or voltage is exceeded?

If it could log to an SD card that would be smart

Now that makes sense to set alarms etc etc

Agreed, but how much easier is it to set down briefly, check the voltage then decide if you want to carry on or stop?

Also for things like RX voltage at least, it is possible to set an alarm to sound on the TX so you don't have to look down at all.

The other benefit of the additional sensors will be in post flight analysis or for those who are into FPV even real time heads-up display of the data but it is early days yet for some of these things.

Bottom line though is yes, looking down while flying is not a good idea

on R/X battery power charge the Dam machine up the day before and check before flight! If you fly on low battery you get everything you deserve with possible extras!!!

FPV info would be interesting.... but then headset linked to the tranny.... how ? a lead... and a lead to the buddy pilot as required by BMFA as well.... lots of leads about... or maybe bluetooth ???

The additional sensors attach to a small device called a 'sensor station', the data logged during flight can be downloaded afterwards using the HPP-22 mentioned earlier.

Still plenty of questions about the practicality and usefulness of these features which will become more apparent as they become available in the next few weeks.

Of course it is not a vital must-have feature, but it is certainly nice to be able to get a warning if something is going wrong and if you fly electric then being able to quickly check the actual pack voltage can be handy too.

Think 'bonus feature' not vital function

Have a look at the new Multiplex sensors:

radio has usb slot on module for data, updates etc.

rpm tele data will be handy as tranny has built in govner function.

just wish it had model match like spektrum but hey cant have everything.

It has governor setup options, but there is nothing special built in to make use of the RPM sensor, you still need a real governor on the heli.

I agree about the 'model match' point, but it does force you to use the touch screen to activate the transmitter and displays the current model right next to the yes/no button so it is hard to miss.
