Having started with a PCM9XII with throttle hold left the DX7 seemed odd as they were the other way round. I prefer the layout of the 9X so have voted this way

Not that I'm aware of; I think some people open up their radio and move them around if they're that desperate; usually you have to extend wires as they're not long enough.

Futaba's are, in general, much more versatile when it comes to switch placement.

I have idle up on the left as it feels easier on the same side as my collective. Throttle cut at right rear and throttle hold in front of it.

I keep them both seperate sides so I don't accidentally hit the throttle cut when going for idle up lol.

I fly, IU left, and TH right, on a 2610, these are not the standard stick positions, but you can change them in the model menu ( the one you have to hold down when you turn the power on, with names and swash mix's and stuff in ) and I'm damn sure as the DX7 was a JR transmitter you can do the same, dunno about the 6i, but I would imagine the software is mostly the same.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

          And a DX8 too

i think the dx7 is very close to the jr 2720 (as i'm not a jr man i think thats the correct number) dx6 = 2610

and norm,iu 1,2 upper left,3 lower left, th upper right cut lower right futaba 9c mode 2

or norm, iu 1,2 upper left, retracts lower left, th upper right, cut lower right as i don't use iu 3 in scale

Being old and senile, I like to have all my throttle controls where I'm used to having them - on the left!

Unfortunately this frequently means having to rewire brand new transmitters to get them where I want them!

I thought programmable transmitters were meant to be - er - programmable?

              Grr!

Then try a Futaba 10CG After many years flying JR it's refreshing to be able to assign any switch to any operation, pity it doesn't feel as solid as my 9XII.

I dont think where it is really matters for instance DX7 and DSX9 both poular radios have them in opposite places, what is important is you know where they are when your flying, and thats what concerns me, with my soggy brain if I go to the DSX9 as I crash I can see me increasing the headspeed by going into another idle up state.
                  All the best

one way I deal with the issue of switches and idle up / hold being in different places ....... hit both switches if you are unsure, hold always overrides idle up 2. Of course this is only useful if you are crashing and need to hit hold, it's feck all use if you are trying to select idle up 2

When I switched from DX7 to DSX9 I moved from choice 2 (most voted for probably 'cos most respondents have DX7) to choice 1.

I must say that I think I prefer the DSX9 setup (choice 1) personally.

Having them both on the same side is courting disaster I think....????
