As it seems now more and more people have experienced the same kind of malfunction at the hands of the ill fated DX6i!
I certainly wont be recommending that TX to anyone again!
Hang on guys!!
Before you totally destroy the secondhand market for people who have or want to upgrade their tx's, don't you think there are more than enough DX6i's users who have no problems at all?
I am one of those people and before we panic ALL Blade users and DX6i users, I would like to see more evidence of a design fault not simply that the TX will not work when left in close to zero conditions.
All electronic components have a temperature tolerance (even those in Futaba and JR) which may have been exceeded in extreme temperatures.
Wayne you said yourself that you had left it on the ground for 25 minutes. Are you going to do the same with your DX7? I wouldn't advise it until the summer mate.
Please, a bit of perspective. Some beginners may be wondering what they have bought with their Blades
The temperature of the day concerned was well over the minim temperature the unit could work efficiently, plus the chap I spoke to said leaving it on the grass shouldn't have made any difference at all!
That unit has caused £90+ worth of damage to my Trex 500, and like Brin cost him expensive blades which lasted all of three minutes again due to the DX6i.
Sorry if you feel this unit is being bad mouth, I've had all the proof I need as has others, Jason quite easily could have ended up with an expensive repair bill had he's TX malfunctioned after he took flight, luckily he's unit didn't work from word go, as it sat in he's car about 30 minutes before we went out to the field.
Isn't this forum about discussing the do's and don'ts, plenty of other gear gets slatted, and after Saturday if anyone had been standing there it would have been disastrous, so no sorry mate I'm not sitting on the fence with this, the unit is flawed and has cost many a pretty penny due to its inability to work in conditions it claims shouldn't be a problem.

Wayne, just out of interest are you using the supplied battery compartment or have you made a welded/soldered pack for your tx. In standard form I can see the battery bay being a liability and maybe the cold could cause a bad joint on the cells.
No mate, it had four fresh Duracell batts in, as the other day it was beeping warning the present batts were coming to the end of there useful life.
This again is another reason why I'm so pee'd off with the thing.
I'd like to mention it never cause a moments concern during the warmer months, but I like to go out on occasion in the colder months too.
Also your talking about someone who cant stay out very long in one session, and mostly the unit sat on top of my accessory case before it sat upright on the grass next to the case.
I haven't followed all of the bulletins on the BMFA but there was concern over the use of dry cell batteries in the DX6. If you keep it, it might be worth seeing if you can make a proper rechargeable pack for it.
Sorry you had a crash all the same when it wasn't down to you. As you say though it could of been a whole lot worse.
Look I'm not saying don't buy one, just take caution when out in the cold thats all, yes I vented a bit of frustration due to my T500 damage who wouldn't.
But safety comes first before anything, and what happened Saturday was about as dangerous as it gets.
HH said something something isn't right in my TX, I'm no expert, but I'd be foolish not to mention this and in a weeks time someone has a real nasty accident!

Safety ALWAYS come's first Wayne and I would be the first to throw mine in the bin should it become dangerous. (I've always had the knack of putting my foot in it regarding safety, have a search for the thread about the Trex being pressed onto the door of a garage by Jason C)
All I'm saying is that if your TX has a design fault in it then HH or Spektrum should say what it is.
At present, the only problem is cr@p pots in a current batch of TX's.
I work in Electronics and I would guess someone ordered the wrong spec ones and they got mixed up.
Spektrum to their credit issued a recall pretty quick.
Futaba who I have always used in the past did not come forward quick enough in my opinion when the whole GUID 00000 fiasco occurred IMHO. There was also confusion about what caused it. At the time I sat to one side and eventually went Spektrum.
Funnily enough, I have just upgraded to a DX7 myself but will continue with the DX6 on the 450 as it can just be chucked in the car for a quick flight at work.
Well i for one want to know about any potential issues with any transmitter. So if i did own a blade 400/DX6i then i would want to know. Better to know than not to... what happens if you sell your TX to me Mark and then it downs one of my expensive birds and hits my misus thats standing watching me fly? Waynes has been fine up until this issue just like yours. Now if i was aware of the issue i could have conducted tests or sent it away to be looked at. Wayne your information is welcomed. Not having a go at you Mark just trying to get my point across. I'll be intrested to know what Spektrum write on the report card when you receive it back Wayne. Im guessing a few other people watching this thread will also. This hobby is dangerous enough. Also im sure if i think hard i could find an issue with half the equipment/models that we all use. I think basically what im trying to say is we need to be aware of anything even if its only potential. I think i would make someone aware of this if i was selling them my DX6i too. Thats just me and would be so i can sleep easy at night.
I never said Waynes information was not welcomed Lee.
All I said was that I would like clarification of what the problem was not simply state that all DX6i's were crap.
There IS a problem with some potentiometers and the trim switches being weak. I totally agree that these are dangerous and should be sorted which is what HH are doing.
I also think we take a lot of our equipment for granted. Flying in minus conditions could result in equipment failure on any part of the Heli. eg Trex 700 links becoming brittle, Lipo's failing and at any time certain regulators being a cr@p design, Rappy tail failures etc. Any one of those could cause your Heli to hit someone.
I take the safety of my machines very seriously. Before I even flew the Rappy I changed the tail to the Align one, I hot glued my regulator as I did not like the look of the PCB mounting for the power supply. I use Red locktite for any critical head component NOT blue (always use heat to remove if needs be). Always preflight check servos and just before take off.
well i have had my dx6i since november last year and have flown every week with it not one glitch or hiccup which im used to when i use the fm/am txs for my cars and planes.
Maybe we take this technology for granted and just expect it to be flawless because for the most part it is pretty flawless and easy to use,
But today when i could NOT control the tail it really bothered me that i could have lost the whole heli and it wouldnt have been my fault .
I never said Waynes information was not welcomed Lee.
Not the impression i got mate, sorry but dont know if it was the way ya worded it bud but i just sounded more like you were bothered about this issue devaluing your DX6i?
