If you go for the Spektrum module in a 35MH 9xii option, how does the binding process work for different models? Clearly if you have more than one model, then the DX7 and the DSX9 will bind to whichever model you select in the Tx menu. But if you have an original 35MHz 9xii with the Spektrum module, it doesn't carry the 2.4GHz software, so how does the binding situation work when you've got more than one model? Or, are you limited to just one model? Or, does the binding process occur between the module and the model, and have nothing to do with the Tx software?
So, yes you could possibly fly the wrong model on the wrong setup but it's the same as charging lipo's, it's not the lipos that are dangerous its the user

Only just noticed this thread, being a bit slow today.
I can't believe the price, it makes me even more sure that the DX7 will be staying for a long time, and there will be a sudden rise in DX7 sells.

When I open it up to adjust spring tensions etc I'll see if there is enough slack on the switch leads. The only thing though is that the labels would then be wrong.
I wonder if Macman can help with this one, as I get the impression that the PCM9Xii is the same. The other option is to try to get used to it!
I borrowed Ash's 9x2 with spectrum module in it for an overly long time, I trashed a few helis in what would have been minor collisions with the ground by flicking the idle up instead of the hold. Wound me up. I don't think you can switch them over since you'd need long wires on the switches to trail from one side of the tx to the other. Now I've gone back to Futaba with 12FG which is the 'correct' way round for me I keep getting confused on occasions.
When I spoke to Paul Beard he promised me that this situation wouldn't happen with his 9ch tx's, although I'm not sure how much he had to do with the 9x2.
Are the 9 channel rx's any better than the spektrum ones? Or the same? I sent back 5 of them so far for repair since they all just stopped 'linking' even when bound correctly. I witnessed another occurance of this yesterday on the spektrum 9ch rx.
You can in fact switch the flight mode switch over.. my dad has done it to his PCM9xII.. and no doubt will be doing it shortly to his DSX9.. I think it is close on the leads but from what I remember it will reach.
As for the receivers. As far as I am aware the actual software/firmware in them are the same. however the JR units are manufactured in Japan at JR's plants where as the Spektrum units come out of Taiwan/China.. whether this makes a big difference I really don't know..

Is this only with the 9 ch spectum rx?
I have 2 AR7000 and 1 AR6200 and had no probs at all so far - but with one heli out of commission I'm wondering about sending them off one by one for quick connect upgrade.
I'm hoping your problem isn't a downside to the quick connect software upgrade!
...and surely if the wires arn't long enough oyu can splice and solder a bit of an extension on. Probably moving the switch already knackered the warranty.
