They make a 2s Lipo for it (8.4V fully charged) so there should be no problems with voltage. The low volt alarm would need changing though, and I don't know if there is a setting for 5 cell ni-mh.
Get the 2S lipo if you can. Pulse, Gens Ace and Turnigy do one for reasonable money and they last for months of weekend use without needing a recharge.

I have a DX8 and I can use the supplied charger to charge the Tx with both types of batteries installed. I believe the DX7 is the same but someone should be able to confirm...

Cabbie10 if your is a dx7, as your first post. It would have come with a 8 cell 9.6v Nimh pack not a 4.8v pack like supplied with a dx7s which you can use a 2cell lipo as suggested. And use the supplied dx7s charger with
As long as we are talking about the DX7S not the DX7 then yes.
The charge circuit in the radio was really built for the lipo rather than the NiMH it ships with, and will actually turn off when the charge is complete.
Don't forget to change the low voltage alarm, it makes no difference to the charging though, that is independent.
