  • whats the smallest ?

    Ok
whats the smallest speed controller you could get away with in a Trex 700
Its not going to be used for hard 3D just the odd loop and roll and simple things as I suck
It will have a 750 motor and a speed fuz on it
so my question is would a CC80 amp do the job ????????
I use them in planes and draw 120 out of an 80 with out any problem what so ever
CC do seem to under rate there stuff rather a lot
    so any ideas please

Not sure about the CC 80 but I have been using a Jive 80 in my TDR and it has been plenty capable. I have an Align 750mx motor (I think it's 450kv) in it and I run fairly low headspeeds, around 1300 most of the time. It plows right through all the moves I usually do with no hint of bogging unless I get heavy-handed with the collective.

No its just what I have not being used at the moment so rather than go and buy a new one thought that would do what I want it to do ????

If as you say 'you suck' then I'm guessing your collective management is not the best. If you make a mistake this is the time you could draw higher currents so I would say no the 80 is not man enough for a 700, you can get a hobby wing 120hv second hand for about 40-50 quid. They take a bit of fettling but will be far better for the job and not expensive. Sometimes you need that power to get out of trouble and a smaller esc will just cough or cut out

sorry but I would sooner put my trust in a cc 80 than one of them things
I have a daw full of dead hobby wing and king ones
and only 1 CC and that was a 70 that had done over 200 hours in an Angel 50
the 700 like I said is not going to be set up with loads of pitch
so cant see why an 80amp would not be upto the job

I never said they were good but you can fly a 700 with one. I had one briefly but couldn't be bothered to mess about with the gov settings apart from that it was ok
Im only trying to answer your question. If you crash that 700 you will be paying out more than a capable esc

Very true I know but I know first hand that the CC80 will stand more and last longer than one of them
If by the time I build it a CC 120 + comes up at the right price and I can afford it I would get it
did not mean to be rude

120A is nothing for a 700, this is from my logo700 maiden this week. There were no tic tocs or nose down walls etc

WOW that's a high draw and them cells don't hold voltage that well they should not drop that much at all
that's a lot of power there, way more than I am after or want to be fair
its just to fly around nothing more at the moment

Personally i'd not go below a 120A HV ESC in a 700. Even simple stuff like big loops can pull a lot of amps. I suck too but i've logged over 160A before which is within the burst rating of most decent 120A ESC's but would be asking for trouble on an 80A.

But if you were flying real gentle scale type stuff then i guess you would be ok on 80A. FWIW Maj was selling an Align 130A ESC recently in the classifieds for a good price, might still be available.

I will have a look and see if its still there
I could nick a cc 160 out of one of my planks for now if all else fails

I think this view is a little antiquated - most people seem to now regard the HW V4 ESCs as comparable to Kontronic and other premium brand ESCs. I've used both CC and HW and never had a problem with either but I really like the HW 160 that I have in my G700. As for Hobbyking, I would be more cautious but have no first hand experience.

I am 50 and have been flying almost only electric all my life from cars to 150 cc planes and loads of them and still do
my fave is a Extreme Flight 88 Edge with a Hacker QQ80 with a CC 160 and I run a CC 80 in it for ages drawing 146 amps and its still going strong so I know it will be fine
just wanted to see what a lazy flown 700 would draw amp wise
