CC don't recommend it for the reasons mentioned above. But I use a Talon90 + OptiGuard on my G500 and it works fine!

CC recommend firing the Talon up with 1/2 throttle. Any chance the main motor could fire up?. Or do you keep the throttle at bottom stick?

Never seen that advice, but suspect it's just to stop the ESC arming when you plug it in as it won't arm until it's seen a 0% throttle value.

I get the same effect by having auto-rotation bailout enabled. So, my throttle-hold value is something like 14%. I plug in with TH enabled and the ESC doesn't arm. It's only until I release throttle hold, and have the left stick fully down that the ESC will finally arm and I can switch to IU1.

No. Ordinarily, 15% power would spin the motor (edit: once the ESC was armed - it would need to see a 0% first for this). There's an option in the Talon though for "auto rotation bailout". This creates a dead-band between zero and roughly 16% where the motor doesn't spin.

The idea is that you can bailout of an auto by releasing TH. Since TH (in this scenario) doesn't send 0%, the ESC understands that it needs to re-spool the rotors quickly, and not use the soft-start it would use from 0%.
