I'm just getting a slight tail-wag, even with the gain set at only 40% on the 401.

The rod is on the outer hole of the stock Hitec arm. This seems to run in a reasonably straight line through the boom support to the ball end. So do I move the linkage in a hole or two, and try to get a good line, or lower the gain?

David, are you using an HS65 as a tail servo?
If so, have you dialled in any delay on the 401 unit - I believe it might need some...

Moving the linkage in will give you less throw.
If you have the limit pot on the 401 set to 100 or more (not less than 100 though) and the tail pitch slider isn't binding, then the horn sounds like it is set about right.
If your limit pot is under 100, move the linkage in a hole on the servo horn and turn up the limit pot to increase the throw again.

If the wag is high speed, the mechanical settings could be fine, and it could be just the gain is too high - although it should be close at 40%, in fact, you should be able to get a higher gain than that even...
Are you using the Gyro menu on your FF7? If so, then 40% gain actually means 40%, instead of an entirely different number (as the gyro menu uses 0 to 100 scale for each positive and negative number and not the 0 to 50 = negative 51 to 100 = positive method).

Fut 3153 servo. Rod 8.5mm from centre.

I have just set the limit to 1005, slighly better but the tail binds both ends before the control gets right over.

No delay.

I did oil the tail shaft earlier cos I noticed that binding a bit.

No expo, ATV at 70% Gyro at 40% gain on A (Auto in Futaba speak?) N = 45%.Zero sub trim.

Just a slight wag, softish, not sudden jerky wag, on the hover.

I'll keep fiddling, but pointers gratefully received

Hmm - Rudder ATV should be 100%.
Then the end points are set using the limit pot on the gyro - they are not set independently of each other on the 401 however you simply dial in the maximum overall throw available.

Shouldn't need delay with the 3153, I believe?

Gyro gain: A = AVCS... N = Normal.

Slow wag usually means the gain is too low.

Take the push rod off the servo and make sure the mechanism operates completely freely and smoothly.

Depends how much rain there's been
I only have a car (mondeo estate) so no choice in the matter - at the moment it's not too boggy, but winter is a killer.
Access to the main field gate entrance is road and concrete track, so no worries reaching the field...

No, but I'm using an Align DS520 on the tail of my Beam and it works very well, plugged in to a 401 gyro

I'll probably try the 5065's with the next 450 size heli.

Does anyone know when the HS-5055MG servos will be in the country?

I've been long awaiting these servos to arrive to replace my current HS-55's in my 450?
