I don't think most people can tell you why Ben. Most people buy a gyro and if they get on with it they buy another the same either because they stick with the devil they know or because it's what most people at their club use or whatever. Not many can actually say why one is better than the other. There are exceptions to this rule but I think it covers most people

As I said I use 3 of the above and they all work for me and if I tried the 4th I'm sure it would be OK as well

Unless you have duncans ability or are into some prety decent 3d flying
      your not going to tell the difference between a 520, 750, 780, 760, 720.
As long as the tails held I dont see the debate just get whats available
& at the best price & leave the gyro politics to those who are sponsored.

First off I don't consider myself one of the people Smoothy is talking about. I've flown and owned most of the available gyros, plus I've pushed them pretty hard and got to understand how to set them up properly.

If hold is all you are interested in then all of the current gyro mentioned will probably be fine, but if you are after a tail that feels like the sim and has the same piro consistency as the sim too, then I'm going to recommend the CSM 720, sponsored or not.

I am not slagging any of the other gyros available by the way as Slopes quite rightly says they are all really quite good, but as your flying gets better piro consistency becomes more apparent and the best is definitely the 720.

I can understand why you consider them old and so you believe that technology has improved, but the sensors available won't have changed too much and in reality I rekon it's the brains of the person who writes the software that makes the gyro operate.

          Anyway good luck

Richie, you and a few others were certainly not included in the "most people" part of my statement as you rightly guessed

Although I am no where near 3D, I have tried a couple of gyros and so far the very best feel is the CSM 720. Rock solid and totally adjustable in all parameters. (BTW. Got one, in excelent condition, for sale if you are interested)

Cheers Richie, if it holds like the sim that would be amazing.

Lets have another look at the CSM then

Love the align GP750 so expecting the 780 to be even better, hoping the 780 will solve the slight wippyness.
But do want to try the Futaba at some point

Ben .. I run an align 650 on one and a jr 8700 on my other heli , both with 720's.. apart from doing the normal setup like n e other gyro ... the only things i changed where deadband and stop gains ... other than that spot on .. took me 10 minutes first setup and fly then 10 minutes on lappy with some test flights all in to get them how i like ...

hmmm always told the csm 720 was mr
whippy when it came to tail setups.
Was also told they were difficult to set up properly
which is why I have to date stayed well clear.

Re: Which gyro to go for.

I think I gonna try one. The thing I like with the Spartan is now the full set up can be done in 2 mins. Then you can spend anything from 5 mins to half a day on the comp if you chose.

I'm no hard 3der by any means but I have always said get the tail sorted with the best gear you can afford as this is one area never to skimp on.

Well let's see what next weekend brings. Just brought a new pitch slider and yet again more tt gears then I realised I waiting on a complete 600 airframe I getting tomorrow which I got for spares

I've had trouble with prety much every gyro I've put on a 450 pro its not
the gyro that at fault it's the limited holding power of the tail on these small helis, try getting a 250 tail to hold & you will no what i mean.
Sure it can be done but it's not easy & it is very fiddly to get spot on.
