Gaz-126 - gy401 clone - Raptor Probs

Hi,

Just took this gyro of my hawk where it had no probs at all however on my raptor when increasing (punching throttle) when coming down to land the tail severly yaws 45 degrees to the right (nose left). This is in non heading hold mode as i have never used heading hold always in rate mode. This never happened with my hawk which now again uses the same gyro.

Question is do i need to add revo mix?

When initializing gyro do you need to start in hh mode when heli is turned on then switch it to rate mode or does this not matter?

the 401 you need to have it in HH first then switch to rate if you want but personally why use rate and not HH ??

ah right im a newbie doing circuits tho and loving it just this problem right well next time i will boot up in hh mode then switch, suppose i may have to try flying in hh mode never tried it to be honest lol

You need to set the gyro up mechanically in non-hh mode to get rid of most of the yaw, then use hh mode. Switch on in hh mode too.

I can see no reason why you would want to use a hh gyro in rate mode.

I have a slightly different 401 clone on my 450 heli (HK401B). It has the same controls but is laid out slightly different. I have never, nor do I have any desire to, run it in rate mode. But it works great in HH.

suppose i will have to learn to fly in hh mode lol, its fine in rate until i punch the throttle then i get 45 degree swing to the left really catches me out.

could it have something to do with my pitch/throttle curve if so do they need increasing or decreasing thanks

You will have to let us know what throttle and pitch curves you have to be able to answer...but i doubt its that.

You really want to be in HH m8,makes flying a tad easier

Im also using a spektrum ds610 on the tail could this be the problem however it holds fine in hh mode which i didnt think it would if it was the servo been the problem

It just sounds like what you'd need is to setup a revo mix if you want to fly in rate mode because basically the gyro is operating at a fixed amount of resistance to the torque, so when the torque changes you would need some rudder to compensate.

In HH mode you don't need a revo mix because the gyro is responding to any movement not initiated by the rudder stick so it will do the rudder pitch accordingly. I think really the main difference when flying is that in HH you will have to steer the rudder in turns and get used to the idea that the gyro is trying to keep the tail exactly where it is until a rudder stick input is made.

If you are getting a big swing on punch outs then try increasing the gain, increase it until you get wag then back off slightly and see what happens on punch outs .

I will try and increase gain a little as it's on the verge now, otherwise I will do revo mix just a pain cos I can't assign it to a switch so I will have to cancel it everytime I want to go into heading hold which I want to learn to fly in I can assign it to idle up swith but then it causes another problem

I have two Raptors (30 and 50) with GY401's and 9254 servos and the tails hold extremely well. But I always fly in HH mode.

Looking at your other thread just now, one suggestion would be that the DS821 is a bit slow as a tail servo, so may not be able to react fast enough to sudden changes in torque.

I thought that aswell what is a cheapish servo i could try and test out, also would it help if it was boom mounted servo instead of up front
