  • Avro Servo Problems

My friend Loopking has been helping me on the Avro build and the servo install has turned into a bit of a nightmare.

We have fitted 3 Align 610s on the cyclic and are having major probs getting the supplied alloy servo horns to line up - over 100 sub trim on two of them.

The servo horns can not be turned round and are the single arm type so they are one trick ponies, spoke to Blitz who are going to send out a few packets of new horns in the hope that these may be nearer the mark.

Lee (made2fade) taught me never to have subtrim where possible so what do I do if the new servo horns are no better which I suspect they won't be.

Basically I need an alloy horn with a gap of 14m from center to center - these gaps are exclusive to the Avro so I cant use a Quick UK on.

There must be a way round this. Our ideas include

    1) Askink Quick UK to send out double arm undrilled horns (via Real Raptors) and being double will be able to turn them around for the bast fit and then cut the other arm off - then drill the servo ball arm holes.

    2) Open up the 610s and play with the gears to see if this makes a difference. (would this effect the end points)

    3) Try and set it up without subtrim but level the swash with the linkages.

    4) Raffle the dam thing and let some one else have the grief!

This is driving us nuts HELP!

Most definately not numbers 2,3 + 4 too start ....

Order some Large round type servo wheels and drill your own holes too get perfect 90 degrees then maybe trim them with a dremel so they dont clip anything OR grab the quick UK metal ones as you say in 1).

Or grab a top end servo programmer

They would if you pull the servos out and fit them... get your 90 degrees, drill hole and then cut some off neatly so that they dont clip anything on rotation.
Id prefer the servo programmer option in this case because its such a nice/expensive helicopter
This way you can program your centre point then move the end points too suit. Not sure which one would do these particular servos but i dare say a bit looking around will find you the answer.

Lee - What is this magic programmer - how would it solve the problem and how much is it and where from.

Sorry to keep leaning on you.

I had a similar issue during the setup. I found by swaping the horns around they differed slightly and was able to get very close.

                    Fast Lad Performance

Not sure if it will do Align servos (dont think that particular one does, youll have too phone the lads and ask) theres bound to be one that does them all though. Dont know much about them but i know you can program centre and end points which you could use here

I,m sure you need programmable servos to use a programmer. Like the high end Hitecs + Hitec programmer.

A bit OT I know but on the subject of servos and the Avro; Can you buy those brackets that support the servo shaft as a separate part? I have always liked that idea.

Surely they can be bought as a spare.

I am using the Avro servo arms on mine (JR servos). When I bought mine, I copied the settings from the sellers DSX9 to mine. I noticed that there was some subtrim. It bothered me at first, but I figured that as the model was originally set up by Dave Fisher, if subtrim was good enough for him then its good enough for me!!
                              Cheers Russ
