  • Spartan DS 760 - no control over servo travel limit

Switched on gyro and the servo went hard-over to the servo travel limit. Entered setup mode but I could not adjust the end-point travel in one direction (the other direction I could adjust end-point travel). Thought it might have defaulted to wrong servo type for some reason but was unable to enter servo type menu (was still able to enter config menu).

Checked all endpoints and sub trims were neutral, checked correct channels for rudder and aux, checked gains were sufficient to switch between heading hold and rate.

I did update the firmware before this flight.

The first port of call is to reset the gyro to defaults and see what happens.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

i take it your running spektrum?

unfortunately spektrum went away from the norm and transmits servo signals before it binds with the transmitter. the signal it puts out is the failsafe setting.

it sounds like your on the wrong servo type.

if you have the current firmware then the gyro wont initialise if the gain is below 15% so if you bind the reciever with the gain below 15% the gyro wont do anything until the rx sees a live signal from the tx.

so bind with less than 15% gain preferably in HH,

then set the gain back to normal, hold the stick over full left and switch on. it will then go into servo setting mode.

or you could just do the setup using the interface lead which you probably have seeing as you have done firmware updates. This also lets you set the exact servo you have which preloads the servo speed which you dont get by doing it through the stick.

      Mystery solved!

It seems that when I updated the firmware it defaulted back to wrong servo type. Not sure why this prevented me entering setup mode. Anyway, used USB link to correct and now have proper control of servo and all seems to be fine. Another perfectly good (if a little cold) day wasted through avionics!

Glad to hear you got it sorted in the end Chris - now you need a laptop to take up the field just in case it happens again
