  • Auto Bail-Out didn't work Talon 90

    Guys,

Did a stupid today, took off on my second pack, got to about a 15' hover, went to flick into IU but god know's why (and maybe even he doesn't!) I hit TH instead (Easy mistake, after all they are on opposite corners of a DX7s,) realised immediately so flicked it off and expected the motor to kick in as I have the auto bail-out enabled on my Talon 90, but nothing happened. May have got away lightly with only a busted skid, as I did get it down level in 3' long grass. I am not sure where my throttle stick was to be fair as I have not tried practising auto's as yet (only on the SIM with 80% success).

Governed settings are Normal 0-30-30-30-30 and IU 70-70-70-70-70. I did put a post on recently about setting up the Talon90. Is there something I need to set differently?

    Cheers
    Paul

      HI Mattie,

Need to check, although I did put a post a week ago in this forum showing my settings as I wasn't sure if I had set it up correctly.

The Talon 90 bailout works well if its been configured correctly.
Your hold value has to be adjusted to a non zero positive value so the motor is not powered to turn and the esc can recover quicker because it has not seen the zero value.
There is a setup guide on the castle website I think.

              Hi Paul,

I saw that - but you need to setup your TX too for bailout to function correctly - it's not just about Talon setup. Essentially bailout works by having a small window of throttle values that aren't zero, but don't power up the motor. So, you hit TH, and the throttle value passed to the ESC is something like 14% (for example). This means that the ESC doesn't see zero throttle, hence doesn't re-engage soft-start. However, because you've got bailout enabled, that low value also doesn't power the motor. So, when you disengage TH, the motor resorts to it's "fast start" motor speed change value.

I think its the TX settings not the esc that's the problem. The esc sees a zero or below & it will go into soft start mode again, most normal throttle hold values for dx7 etc are minus numbers so by hitting hold so early in the flight it sees it as a restart so soft spool up will be effective. You need to go into your throttle hold screen & adjust it till it starts to spool up then back the setting off till it stops this will then ensure your bail out functions correctly.

I would change that headspeed change from 8, to around 16-18. 8 is quite slow when bailout is activated. Just follow the video on youtube, look for castle autorotation calibration.

As has been said above. If your hold position is set to zero, when you hit hold the speedo thinks you are fully stopped and your next command wants to be a slow spool up!!!

So what you have to do is raise your hold point to tell the speedo that you want auto-rotate bail out.

Castle give you this value in 'ms' which in normal lingo is about 15%. Its worth testing this with main and tail blades off!!!

                        So in short.

                        Your normal curve should be 0 30 30 30 30
IU what ever you want the headspeed
                        Hold 15%

Testing............Blades off........Normal mode...........Throttle half stick........Let headspeed build until on speed.............Flick hold and motor should stop and blades slow down.............Flick out of hold and you should get a fast spool up ............Flick hold again............Throttle stick to low position in normal..........flick out of hold..........you should have normal control again

Let us know how you get on
                        Cheers Matt

You will know that your autorotation bail is correctly setup when you plug your lipos with the hold on, esc initializes and when your flick out of hold it arms. Best to test it as well, I prefer backing the motor off because I dont want to fiddle removing blades and the tailblades torque pushing while testing.
