Odd i have only ever used Align ESC's on my helis and never had a failure to date, Infact i dont think i have ever blown a Esc on anything. (touch wood)
I have always wondered about getting a seperate BEC just incase the esc goes up i can still auto it home but then if the BEC failed i would be in much the same situation. until one lets me down im a fan of align escs

Have a look here, by using a code/link you can get reasonable discounts off HK stuff. You can also upload your own codes and get cash back into your account if someone uses it.

Was thinking about ordering some Turnigy 2650s, or 3000s form hobbyking. Do the 3000s fit the standard Trex 500 tray ok and is the cofg acceptable?

The 3000's will fit under the canopy fine if you have the newer updated battery tray. GOG will be fine, but may require you to shift the ESC about a bit if sliding the battery fore or aft doesn't get you where you want to be.

Think I probably have the older battery tray - my 500 is a couple of years old - and not sure if the frames will accept the updated battery tray.

No they won't, but do a search on the 500's "drop tray mod". 10min job.

Otherwise order the 6S 2650mAh- should fit just fine on the older frame.

Been running Blue Turnigys for about 18 months and Nanotechs for about 10 months.

None have ever failed on me to date, the oldest Blue ones giving good power in the 600 Pro/Logo 600.

The nanotechs for the same helis are probably not as strong(only 25c ones though) but are still very good.

TBH the Blue ones at £34 a pack from Germany take some beating,i cant imagine buying premium packs no matter how good they claim to be.

I agree, i order them from china to save on the tax etc but the blue ones take some beating !,

I have ordered from Germany and they took 11 days to get here :-( last china shipment arrived in 12 days so worth the wait IMO for the saving
