I've been saving the pennies for a month towards a 6s 5000, as i've been strongly considering one for my grass roots flight as i think i may need that extra punch over my Turnigys. Only time & lots of flights will tell how it performs.Yes the big sigpic is coming back

I have just stripped and sold my 700N so lots of heli tokens,i am just about to lose a 5000 zippy and a very old Revo leaving me two 6s 5000 packs only,so i want to save these ones life for use in the 700E along with 2 6s 4000 Turnigys i also use in there.
So i am replacing the two failing ones with one Opti which as a single pack will be for 550 use exclusively.
Will let you know how it goes,i will break this one in properly also, unlike the 2700
Now having the capability to charge at good Amp ratings at the field i am very keen on up to 3c charging feedback on these.

When at home I would always charge at 1c maybe below and even at the field would tend to parallel packs up and do a 1c charge across them but if needs must and I want to push to 2 maybe 3c what can I expect to lose in lifetime.Originally posted by ChrisB View PostAndy
Where are we at with regards to making use of the 3c charge rates?
I understand higher c charging can be detrimental to cycle life but have you any input on this point?
Thanks for your thread input,appreciated.
Chris
We have been doing long term testing at 3C and the data looks good to be honest. Our guidelines are 1C if you have time and 2C at the field and it looks like 3C is fine too. Interestinly time difference on accurate charge between 1C and 3C is not great. When we have completed the work we will publish our findings.

Andy I applaud the information provided however it implies that ALL others are false and misleading and without supporting data in itself would be put in the same boat really.Cheers

Problem is Andy, the others are not claiming they are the only honest ones and everyone else is using false advertising ...Originally posted by avroboy View PostPerhaps you could ask others to supply thier 65C discharge data and thier 10C charge data, now that would be interesting reading!! No one will of course.

Hmmmm - Its a double edged sword in my opinion. You have the like of TP that Opti have been very much compared to as very much in tune with and they profess to have 65C etc etc. But to say that Opti are REAL and imply the others are not then your saying that TP are false but they've just been compared to them.
I'm personally a non electric flyers so it really doesn't make a difference to me but this issue was flagged up from day 1 when it was first muted that Optipower packs where tested in a manner that compared to the rest it was felt gave a truer reflection of the packs ratings. Which is fine but the implied view I find flawed without like you say third party testing data.
It seems to me that unless we have a uniform testing method across ALL brands for the industry as a whole the C rating is as much use as a chocolate fireguard no matter which brand it is...Last edited by Stuart; 13-03-2012, 11:14 PM.Cheers

all i can contribute to this thread, and this is a non biased obvsevation, as some of you know i spent the weekend in ireland at model heli services, while i was there they let me loose with a fuly carbon framed logo600, it had another brand pack in it to start with, 12s 4300, head speed around 2170, flew great, at about a 90% flat line thottle curve, banged some opti 12s 4300 and the headspeed went up, massively, around 2575!!! was scary, had to take the thottle curve to a 60% thottle curve to get the headspeed back down to a useable 2175
the synergy e7 running 12s 4300 optis was phenominal!! head speed remained constant, plenty of grunt

The more I think about the sums the more difficult it is to believe. To go from 2170 to 2570 is too big a jump. It implies the voltage of the bad pack was running at near flat and the Opti pack was some how producing more than 4.2 volts per cell.
What is the full setup of the model; motor Kv, teeth on pinion and main gear please?Last edited by Andy from Sandy; 14-03-2012, 10:20 AM.

yes it was tached, dunno what make tach, i didnt pay attention, i just know what i saw, maybe the other branded pack was crap and had a dodgy cell, but im just relaying what i saw, and how far we had to drop the crve to get the thottle back to a useable postion.
but its cool, u can sit and tell me its not possible, that im lieing blah blah blah, all im telling u is what i saw
