As most know I have had 2 pre production Opti Power 6s 5300's packs. I have had these for nearly 2 months and due to the fact I have not flown a huge amount lately it has taken this amount of time to get a decent amount of flights through them to be able to fully judge the packs capabilities.
First off I use no data logging inflight stuff only info I take after the flight with a checker, temp by hand and info of the PL8 during charging and also I'm not sponsored by Opti or have any plans on becoming sponsored by Opti so have nothing to win or lose by saying anything other than my honest thoughts and findings. I'm no electronics specialist but I have now been electric Heli flying only for over a year and like to think I now enough to get me by.
They have been flown as a 12s pack in my 90s and as single packs on my Logo 500 (550 size)
As you all know as well I have been a FlightPower fan boy
so these packs have had a lot to live up to.
I always run my packs in, first off by the very first flight at 4 mins basically just hovering and gentle flying so the discharge is not to fast then I start to fly more aggressive and normally by the 4th or so flight I'm flying as I normally would providing the info on the charger seems ok to me.
The first few flights were quite impressive, the very first landed with 48% left and were just warm. As I started to fly longer by the 5th flight I was flying my normal 5:30 and landing with anything from 25% up to 40% odd. Now the Heli setup and gearing also has a lot to do with this and I like to think I have my helis set up quite well. If I run say a 2100 head speed on my Srimok and done all fast big moves then the packs will come down in around the 20-30% range and be warm. When I run the lower head speed of 1750 they would come down with anything from 30% up left and just warm.
I flew these packs back to back with my Fp's 40c and 50c and also my Turnigy nano's 25c and 45c. They perform better than both variants of my Turnigys and the difference is defo noticeable. An example, during a sustained, what I would call demanding move like a big fast pull up into the sky where the power is on for a continuos few seconds as I like to fly high then up and over to an inverted loop they would keep the head speed well and I would notice no difficulty in doing this move. When doing this with the Hk jobbies I would struggle with the inverted bit and I used to think it was me, maybe it is my poor collective management but the Opti's hid that and the move looked clean and felt great. I then tried this with my Fp's and the move would also be the same, no issues. I had never really noticed it until I was actually thinking about it as I was concentrating on what I was doing and just thought before that sometimes I could do it great and sometimes I could not
When comparing directly with the FP's in all honesty I can tell no difference between them. They feel just as warm, no cooler or hotter and this is just by feel. The IR's are around 1.8 on both packs and seemed to have settled at this now. The HK's are around 2.7 but these are older with more flights on and the Fp's IR are around 2.2 and again these are older with about 20 or so flights more on them.
The long and short of it is I find these packs better than the HK jobbies and I can tell no difference between these and my fave FP's. the only thing I can obviously not comment on is life expectancy as they are not dead yet
I would recommend these packs any day of the week and the warranty and crash replacement they offer is an attractive offer.
At the end of the day you pay your money and make your own choices and I thought about not posting nothing about these tbh in fear of just being attacked etc but in the end I obviously decided to.
Take from it what you will but you will not go wrong buying them
