You can buy the board on its own, but if you don't already have a suitable lipo I have no idea why you would as they are not charging much for the Optipower 430 lipo.

I got the pre- order one. Wasn't sure if it came with a lipo.

Can you turn the unit off ,without unplugging the lipo .I know it has a sleep mode but i keep my helis in bags with the blades on and if one powered up it would damage a lot of the electronics as it went to initialise. The scorpion does see to have a mechanical off switch.

Apparently not.

The manual tells you to disconnect the battery if you plan to leave it unused for any length of time, so that may be the way to go if you don't trust it to stay powered down.
