Andy, I have a standard trex 700e HV so it does not have a BEC just an Rx pack for the servos, would this device be capable on this setup (I also run a mini vBar, so I am guessing no?)

yes it will work fine no trouble at all, designed for it.

It will run at 7 to 10A, but bare in mind this is not designed for your to fly about on doing hard 3D, its to give you control when BEC or RX pack fail so you do not crash. The UG430 board can run with any 2S LiPo with a JST-XH balance connector. Do not plug in the 2S lead however if there is one as this will damage the board. You can buy the board as a seperate item.

I guess that taking the power from the 'bottom 2S' of of your regular flight-pack's balance connector would cause problems. [?]

Which is kind of a shame; as if that config worked, it would give protection against certain failure modes, without the weight of another pack. [Maybe..?]

This really does sound like the product we have been waiting for.

It presumably tops up the battery at a point in time when the Radio/Servo load isnt too high & the existing BEC has some spare capacity?

The main thing I like is I change the BEC voltage quite often for various reasons and am always plugging in, swapping out etc so this way I have to do nothing

Andy, just one question, has this unit been approved by Castle or Kontronik?

Castle at least have previously advised against using devices like this saying they can cause problems for switching BEC's.

Kontronik have previously recommended using a NiMH buffer pack and people have suggested that this can help deal with back EMF issues in a way that the Scorpion BUG could not.

So is your device different and able to work happily with Castle ESCs and will it also help with the back EMF issue where the Scorpion does not?

It is more costly than the Scorpion device but it is much more intelligent as well so cannot be compared on price alone. The Combo which is the near equivalent is £29.99 and its default is always ON so you do not have to switch it on plus it charges if needed in flight and it multi-voltage.

Check the documentation at the link I posted.

The instructions have you switch off the main power first, then place the Guard into 'hibernate' mode where it waits until it sees the main power turned on again.

If you plan not to use it for a couple of months then they suggest disconnecting the battery, so there is neither a proper 'off' switch, nor I guess the need for an 'off' switch.

Any ideas where to mount the LED for best visibility? Its for my nitro. I am thinking between the skids infront.

I'm thinking about making a small carbon bracing strut that goes across the boom supports and using that. It should be visible most of the time then.
