Aha! Perhaps it wasn't me!

I rebuilt according to the manual and unless I've gone nuts it's showing 'reverse pitching' control on the tail.. as in slider right, left lift.
Now no reason why you can't do that but the radio was set for 'conventional' tail and I haven't changed that..so either the manual is 'wrong' or the original builder reversed it.

It doesn't matter but I've put it 'conventional' because my head gets around what's happening on the tail better.

I'm finding neat bits all the time ..because I didn't build it from scratch some subleties only get noticed as needed..like the upper radio tray can be positioned up or down..

One interesting feature is the servo arrangement.

Rather than using push-pull (which effectively means the load on the servo is a couple - ie pure torque); they've gone for a brace arrangement.

What are people's thoughts on this ?

I have always liked the brace setup. I'm not sure exactly what the theory is behind that vs a push-pull arrangement besides less ball links and less things to adjust to get the geometry right.

Helis with servos that connect directly to the swash, like the Ely.Q Ultimate, could really use some braces like that.

It's an interesting argument that's knocked about on other helis.
My Minair Spectra G has slingle pushrods to the cranks too.. and optionally one can buy servo doublers to suppoert the output shaft there also.

The argument for push-pull could be safety if one comes off.. but then there are always singles from cranks to swash anyway.

What is neat here is that servo arms are provided..no need to mess about measuring ball distances.. downside is that I can't find a spline that's a good 90deg withut using lots of subtrim whereas a wheel gives many more chances.
Here the servo support is backed with a rectangular frame (only three sided) that sits on the servo.. so long as you can get a tool in to push it towards the frame sheet and snag the first bolt through then it's dead easy to remount the sevros compared to bits of plastic behind - or indeed the PEM nuts sometimes used that loosen in the frame..

Blitz ball links are a good solid fit..no slop at all to give confidence. On my Spectra I went for captive links on the wheels to cranks cos I didn't trust them.

A better pic of the canopy colours...

Blitzy is back!

Got his tail sorted and spent a tank generally fiddling the mechanical setup to perfection and the phasing again.
Second tank was still some cautious flying ..the first flip was an adrenaline moment after the way he plummeted 2 weeks ago but no drama.

Tail is a bit soggier on stops but I don't have a csm lead to adjust via PC and there is a cautionary note in the manual about the power of the Avro tail and recommending slower stops. It's my first csm720 and no wag at 88% gain..it's only numbers I assume.. but I rarely get above 38% with a futaba gyro.

I did end with a low auto..but only 'cos I got carried away and ran out of juice on the last run..

If he behaves for a few tanks then he can have his new radix back...

..now to wire in his booster pack..

I'm sure the CSM 720 is an excellent gyro, but I sold both of mine and went back to Futaba, I think they work far better straight out of the box. I'm not a very good pilot so I'm not terribly demanding.

The 611 is easier to progamme just because it's all on the amplifier.. in fact too much choice! The csm720 program is a free dowload..just a question of whether I buy a lead.. did think about trying my beastx lead in there?

Overall his setup is a bit more nimble than my700 and probably at a lower headspeed (no governor on him yet and never had a tach-buddy when flew him)..

..as for flying ability.. I'm never going to be a 3d-er :(

'Speaking of tachs, someone tached mine last weekend and much to my surprise I had 1900 headspeed. 1900 is OK as idle-up 2 or something but it doesn't
need to be that high all the time, so I have started tweaking the curves a bit. I used to just run a normal mode and one idle-up but at the moment I
have created an idle 1 that is a milder jump from normal mode and idle 2 is where idle 1 used to be. (not using a gov at the moment)

Still haven't put a tach on mine or a governor. Squeaky tuned it by his instincts for me..although I think it's always been too rich..but safer with my burning up of engines - just never been on it's MP5 pipe really...
It flies, it makes me look like I can ticktock better than I can.. what more to ask...?
