Thanks! That's very cool indeed. At 3DM in 2008 they had a booth and they had some display models with different tinted frames but I suppose the retail ones are all black frames.

Well, I am going to be selling off lots of little things and a heli or two. What's slowing me down at the moment is I need to get a new camera first so I can get pics of the sale stuff. My el cheapo Samsung camera now has a mind of it's own, and mostly seems to not want to work.

I think when you get them new they come with a white unpainted canopy, so it's a clean slate. Maybe I can have the very first pink Avro ever? :) Maybe.

I think it looks nice with the canopy, but I'm not seeing any engineering that looks unusual, exotic, etc.

What is it that I've missed ?

The canopies are blank and no gel coat so need some effort to get them nice..but then a garage ower with a compressor wouldn't have any problem DIY or begging a favour from a sprayer.

Ray (flying mate and car sprayer) has done me one..mostly porsche green with blue metallic screen as a beater canopy.. I'm sure he'd be happy to do a pink:)..

..If you really need pics better than phone cams then I do have a canon with some smart lenses you can borrow...lots of megapixels and an L lens 70mm zoom.

You can afford it..just a matter of how much you want it? Although if I lived in the frozen north I'd also be considering an RJX extreme 90 since you're nearer the dealer. Oh, heck..get 'em both:)

You really have to see them up close to appreciate fully all that went into the design. Every part is just so well crafted, everything is perfectly thought-out and a lot of it is extra sturdy and heavy duty. The Robbe Futuras share a similar belt drive arrangement and are also made extremely tough but more in a pragmatic German way.

Have you ever seen a JR Sylphide or Kasama Srimok up close? Similarly they don't look that special until you see all the detail and the precision.

The whole point of good design is to stay looking simple. You also have to put it back in it's era..some of the ideas were cutting edge. And really the hole point is that although it could probably be completely redesigned to bling it up and some of the components could be premade together to make service easier... then those parts would need to be mass produced to achieve that.

At the end of the day it's a highly accurate machine that still performs in it's niche as well as any other, is kept simple enough, is understood so well by it's company and the support is superb..and it's made UK (up your imported delays). And a good chance that if you had a mod you wanted then it'd be possible

I'd view it along with other superb machines. like the MinAir Fury 90.. also a superb bit of engineering but the parts count is huge and hellish delays getting some of the bits here...but it'll probably be supported longer than my heli flying career.

Yes, I'm sure I've looked at Avros before, and liked things. I just didn't notice much in the photo that looked all that interesting.

Ah!..The pic was to stir Trillian...but it does have a unique one-off fbl head made for it. But I bet if Neal was asked he'd do some more..?

That one isn't mine. Pics of mine right now would be a bit sad..still spread out all over the heliroom table in bits...but should be re-assembled soon.

Blitz went for his post-fix maiden..wearing some cheap secondhand 690 Aligns rather than his radix...but I found his tail servo clicking a touch on preflight..so just wound him up on the deck to run the engne and the put him away.

It was so sunny that the canopy looks yellow on a full shot.. you can see the real colour on the close-up

I'll swap out his BLS251 for a spare 9256 pending a new gear set...

There was a tiny kick on the tail I'm putting dwn to the engine being too rich and that servo.. since he's almost new from the crown gear back:(.

Then I dinged my 500 on a low nose in side flip to inverted that got caught by a gust and I dumbthumbed the correction.. at least the lawn gets mowed:) (a jesus bolt and one bent skid tube now a broken one)

It looks like a lime green.

My last camera used to be incapable of capturing certain orange tones properly. They would come out yellow when they were actually a deep orange closer to red.

It's actually porsche gree..sl darker than lime..needs some decals which I'll make sometime

Found a gear from a 9252 set to fit the 251 so all fixed for another try tomorrow.

A kiddie mistake.. put the tail rotor on with the grip arms reversed!.. and didnlt spot that until I'd wasted half the morning fiddling with gyros trying to stop it wanting to spin.. that and the tendency for this engine to flood.

..tomorrow's another day..
