Unquestionably big changes ahead but the pointers I see all go towards a Lithium based technology using nanoscale intracell conduction/distribution with suggestions that this can store power in the order of tens of times more than at present. Anythign else I've read has been much more esoteric and likely many many years before it's available...

Im not sure we are going to see a real change any time soon. We have been using regulated lipos for atleast 4 years. Lipo first appeared on the market for electric powered models atleast 8 years ago.

We saw dual voltage servos for a short time which were designed for use in 6cell nicad buggies that had 4 wire servos. normal 3 to the rx plus a 4th wire direct to the battery these were KOpropo and quite a few used them on 2s lipo. These servos were over 100ukp each tho and not readily available.

Now there are some more high voltage servos coming through but hardly run of the mill. I would really love to know why people like JR and futaba didnt jump on 2s lipo years ago.

Probably too small a market to be economically viable!

A good friend of mine (sadly no longer with us) used to own a model shop. He used to tell me that he loved heli flyers coming in, as they would think nothing of spending £100 on a servo!

Fixed wing flyers, in contrast, grumbled if it was over a tenner!

The thing is, that it was fine when you only had one expensive servo to worry about (on the tail). When they *all* get to that price, even hardened heli flyers flinch! And there aren't enough people around willing to pay that kind of price to enable production in sufficient quantity to bring the price down!

It will happen eventually. I think in a few years time, nearly everything will be 2-cell Lipo. But it won't happen overnight!

theres been a whole stack of nice expensive heli servos released in the past 2 years and a whole bunch more in the 2 years before that...

the internal electronics will be regulated so that only leaves using motors and fets designed the high voltage operation. I doubt they are using off the shelf motors so I am afraid they are running out of excuses!
