Another new word... govenor mode???? I hope thats not linked to her in doors cutting down my flight time!

If you are relating to the linkages on the mixer arm... they are positioned as per user manual - beginner mode.

Unfortunately I don't think the ESC you got with the heli has a governor mode but I have given you a quick explination below.

Govenore mode maintains the headspeed as best possible no matter what pitch you put on the blades. You set the throttle curve in idle up 1 to give you a straight line eg - low stick 85%, mid stick 85% and high stick 85%. Then set the pitch curve in idle up 1 as needed.

You simply switch from normal to idle up 1 once the battery is hooked up and your ready to go making sure to move the stick to give you around 0 pitch while the blades spool up. Once upto speed then take off !

It really does make life a whole lot easier and you will find most use governor mode as standard.

Your right my esc doesnt have the gov mode... but i can set idle up - i read a little about gov mode and it would seem certain esc have it and monitor the motors rpm's, so setting idle and using throttle stick to cotrol pitch is a half way house i spose!

I've found a local club that are more into heli than aero so i'll be over there at the weekend... bmfa membership being sorted so i'll be okay to fly there... it would seem my aero days are limiting my assistance as most people are mode 2 while i'm mode 1... my dad's to blame all those years ago flying fixed wing...

        Anyhow onwards and upwards!

If you are using the standard ESC that comes witht the kit, then it does have governor mode, and is set along with other parameters when you connect the battery. the instructions are not accurate however, and they show the same beep tones for both governor and non governor mode, if you need a copy of the instructions, PM me and I will scan hem and e-mail them to you.

I've got a copy of the instructions... i'll have another read!

I think its about time those esc's were usb enabled to set them up without keeping track of the bleeps - i always get halfway through and the wife comes in... 'ja wanna cupper?'.... I also think the esc is taking the lipo down tooo far, so while i'm there i'll check that as well

Thats the beauty with the line of castle creations controllers, they have a usb lead which can be used along with software on a pc to just alter all the options at a click. Also some of the newer esc's now have a programming card that you can buy which has a series of switches to change the options, they just plug into the esc and you change it as needed.

I found the governor mode with the standard ESC on my Mini-T was very poor, either all or nothing so changed to throttle curves instead.

I notice you said 'when I move the stick one notch', the throttle stick movement should be smooth without the ratchet as this will cause this problem.

My tranny didnt come with an optional smooth ratchet replacement... however, i've modded the metal arm - basically squashed the v flat... now I have much better control... Pitch curve altered from instructions to give more expo around the mid stick point...

Anyone using idle up... say 80% of motor - then use the throttle stick for pitch only? Is this a wise move for a new flyer?

Currently my pitch starts @ 40% at point 1 and progresses to 100% @ point 5. Throttle curve goes something like 0, 45,65,85 & 100...

Going on what SHR990 said about the governor not being very good I would stick with your normal throttle for now.

for gov mode the tune should be 5 chimes - dash- then 3 chimes
for off the last set of chimes is only two...

ive been flying my mini-T in the garden thisevening trying to get it flying nicely... But it just dosnt like hovering :s
Seems that it is hovering on when the blades are at 9' , it should be hovering at around 6' right???
What happens is you get it into a hover, and the it will just drop all of a sudden or climb, i think the governer is crap to be honest.
Im gonna try it tomorrow with the governer turned off, and just use curves as surgested above. Unless anyone know how to speed up the governer???

I would be interested in how an electronic governor is set for speed. Am i barking, or if you set the throttle curve at say flatline 80% surely that is going to give you the same effect?. Somebody clear this up for me.

Rob, I tried the gov mode on the trex and it was naff - hunting all over the place.
Electrics are not really that fussed about a bit of overspeeding (unlike glow engines which will get the hump). I turned the gov mode off and set normal to 0, 50, 70, 90, 90 and idle up to 100,95,90,95,100 that keeps the head speed healthy , it is high at 0 degree pitch but I'm not at that point that often.

The diffrence as far as I see it between governor and just a straight throttle curve is that the govenor attempts to keep the head speed constant no matter what load is put on the blades. With a normal straight pitch curve if the headspeed starts to drop due to a load increase the throttle stays where it is and doesn't try to compensate unlike the governor does so the head speed will not pick back up until the load is decreased.
