  • My Mini-T

    Its flown today in blustery conditions - my first real flight and i'm very impressed with the way it handles... its my first real chopper after my twister bell so i sorta had a good idea of the basics.

    Anyway here are my radio settings for the Futaba 6EX 2.4GHz tranny:
    Heli Mode
    Ch1 = Reversed
    Ch3 = Reversed
    Ch4 = -30% Expo

    N-TH
    1=0% 2=45% 3=65% 4=85% 5=100%
    N-PI
    1=40% 2=50% 3=70% 4=74% 5=100%

    Gyro
    Ch5 up = 65%
    Ch5 down = -50%

    SWSH
    A=-70
    E=-70
    P=+70

    And some post flight photos:

    One thing i've noticed is that every now and then the tail kicks round 90° cant work out of its the servo or gyro???

    Its a real pain.... any ideas?

    My next move is to fly indoors, in a sports hall or something... just to see if its the wind playing games????

      I would have a close check around your tail linkages etc & if the tail grips are on the wrong way it can bind. I have a titan with 20 flights or so on it and have never had any kick, thats using a 401 with 83% gain in HH which is probably a little high but she holds rock steady.

      Running in govenor mode will make things much easier, perhaps your tail is losing speed momentarily when you are changing throttle posistions if your using a normal throttle curve.

        What motor have you put in it?
        I found the new trex 450 se v2 motor & controller is far too powerfull for a gy401 to hold the tail under full powered climbs with my hs 85mg tail servo.
        With the original 450 se motor & controller everything was fine.
        One thing to check is where the tail pitch slider is joined to the tail the screws here can work loose & cause slop in the linkage causing issue with the tail.

          I have the bog standard motor & esc that came with the kit...

          My HH is set to about 70% on the tranny (6ex 2.4ghz) and the delay on the 401 is set mid-way... with the HH off (the tranny is set to -60%) the heli is all over the place - what with the wind its a handfull. Being new to real rc heli world i'm probably pushing my luck learning in these conditions?

          I'm using a modified pitch/throttle curve to give less change about the mid point on the stick!

          I can hover for a couple of minutes and then all of a sudden the tail will kick round.... then it doent want to come back - it could be the linkages sticking some how... i have checked them on the ground and it all seems fine?? Maybe i'll have another check just to be sure.... maybe its the naff hs56hb servo being over worked then locking up???

            Why set the delay ? turn it to 0 and stop any wag with your gain settings.
            Could the delay be the reason ? for kick.
            Only reason I would set delay is when you stop the tail sharply it bounces.
            If yours doesn't do that defo set 0 delay.
            cant think of any other reason for kick other than tail belt slip.
            It cant be a glitch (2.4ghz)

              I set the delay to overcome any shortcomings with the servo... maybe i should try it on zero again see what happens!

                After a recent collision with the ground the rear linkages seem to have a lot of slop in them - this is between the rear control arm and the rotor blades... when i tighten the links up (by a very small amount) the whole rear end becomes stiff and would offer too much resistance to the servo.

                It would seem this area of the mini titan needs some bling...

                I've replaced the hs56hb with a new 3154 on the tail... but i'm not flying it until i've resolved the slop...

                Any solutions to this slop will be helpful!

                  Sorry to say the 3154 servo as sweet as it is has a bit of a reputation for burning out. Not sure why as its a 6v rated servo but almost anyone I've known who has used this servo has had a failure not too long after starting to use it. I would change it for a S9650 if you can.
                  Cheers

                    im not sure if uve fixed this yet, but if you have no revo-mix and no heading hold, your tail will swing around alot.

                    Ive just setup my mini titan, its brilliant, just need to get down to the field with it now

                      Get some carbons on it, the stock one's are mediocre at best.

                        HH is set and does work well until a point when the whole thing kicks round for no reason... I do need to spend some more time tinkering with the tail linkages! As i said before its not flying until its sorted I dont want another £40 bill in bit coz of the same problem!

                        I did think of going over to carbons but didnt want the expense if i have another hard landing i'll get some more flying time in then change to carbons!
                        Regards,

                          i would think its a combination off servo linkage and gain that is the same problem i had i ignord it for a while till i bit me and dinged..so i would guess if lengthen the servo ball by about half a mm and turn the gain heading hold to about 51 that will do it four flights today and good fun but dinged it again as i fitted a low battery took of and the fail safe turned the motor off oops damaged the canopy but had another 2 flights.. this may work for you,???

                            I'm one bunny!

                            The mini-t flew like a dream last night, weather conditions were perfect for a beginner! Had 2 8min flights without any tail kicks, all controls were spot on.

                            Added some oil to the tail rotor shaft - couldnt get rid of the binding, so i oiled it... as with the main rotor shaft / swash bearing - now perfect tail control and pitch much better

                            Not used the 3154 yet still using the hs56hb on the tail... the gyro has been set to 0 delay and the transmitter sensitivty set to +53%

                            One minor issue i need to address is with the stupid throttle stick... the heli is either shooting up or coming down all in one notch! After the flight last night i squashed the metal bar on back of the stick to reduce the notchieness (if thats a word)... the tranny wasn't supplied with a smooth heli part???

                            I've also changed the pitch % around the mid point on the stick... When i fly tonight i'll see if my changes have paid off!

                            I think i was expecting too much flying a few weeks back in all that wind - getting itchy feet does not help when you have a nice new model to fly sitting there built ready to go (big lesson learnt!!!).
                            Regards,
                            Matt

                              Glad your getting it sorted, I would definately try to get to grips running it in govenor mode tho as you will find height control a lot easier.
