Haha yeh I was so excited and was all ready but bad luck could not bring it back home in one pieces....to be honest I never lifted a heli up before I got a little 3.5 channel syma cobra toi practise indoors...I also have a training gear but I thought it would make the heli unstable because...when the heli was setup it was setup without the training kit...so I was not sure that it wuld have been a good idea.....anyways my first flight was good I landed it safely I don't know how!!!! second flight was rubbish because the heeli wont lift and I had move all the cyclics a bit far from the centre because the heli would not lift up... so I think I over done the cyclics n crashed it.....the fun thrill I had priceless!

He's got FMS on one computer, and HelisimRC on the other.

He has training skids, but we took them off for setting-up. They won't, of course, be of much help if he gets it hovering OGE, as they'll oscillate. They're only much good at the hopping stage to prevent tipovers. In the air they're a disaster.

Sadly, he's very limited as to where he can fly. His local park is the only place open to him other than a flying club.

            No, it's a Mode 2 DX6i.
Good to hear about the mode 2 DX6i.

Those cheap co-axials are useless - look instead at the ones I mentioned (which will bind to the DX6i) - the mcpx is probably the most relevant, or the 130x.

The bit about the park is about being safe. I was trying to make the point that you need to take this seriously. Too many I think work on the lines "how difficult can it be?" and fail miserably.

I understand about not liking sims - I don't either. But seriously - get an mcpx or 130x - it'll save loads in the long run ...

This is probably slightly off topic as I don't suppose the tail servo had anything to do with the crash but I notice that the tail servo is an Align DS410. I am not an expert by any means but I think that the 410 and its successor the 415 should only be used for cyclic. For the tail a DS420 is better.

I had one on my trex 450 which is a similar sized helicopter. When I broke it for the second time I replaced it with a 520. It is bigger and needed different brackets to fit but it seems to hold the tail better.

As I said, I am no expert, I am a relative beginner, so ask those who know.

Mike, the 410 was the only thing he could get at the time. For basic hovering and noob manoeuvres it would be adequate. He's not doing 3D with it.

I remember my first crash, I was putting my hovering off the sim into practice, I got impatient after a while and tried FFF, having done it on the sim i tried it on my 450, on about the 4th pass nailed the floor nose first in IU, It needed a re-kit I learnt a lot from that and one thing was dont rush.

I sold it as spares, made money and bought an mcpx v2 I learnt everything on that, flew it on some really windy days. I crashed more times than you can imagine while learning but you can pick them up and go again.

That little mcpx was the best training aid i ever bought, I still use it now when i cant get out with my big heli cause we all know sims get boring when you sit at them after a while.

I'd consider buying one, It'l be cheaper than fixing your current heli each time you crash, when youve got your hovering covered then go out with the one you have now.

I couldn't agree more. The mcpx will bind to the DX6i, and will teach you the basics in a fraction of the time. It'll save you heaps of cash too.

                      Get an mcpx!

I don't think crashing at this stage is very productive or necessary TBH. Trying FFF before you can hover steady tail-in and wiggle the tail around is a bit silly IMO. If you fly FFF at 50 feet and crash after 5 seconds or 50 seconds, you will soon get discouraged by the repairing time and cost.
If you can hover confidently at 6 inches with legs on, then 1 foot then 2 foot then 4 foot you will get just as much of a thrill, and bringing it back home safely for the next flight is just as much satisfaction.
                        IMHO

Lots of different things that fly

And happy to have FOUR shiny EGS

Mate when I take throlle stick half way up the heli starts to lift off the ground but try to go in different direction I think because of the wind ....and I had to move my cyclics a bit further down the limits to lift it off the ground and as soon as I did that the heli went forwards....so tyo balance I pulled it back (right hand stick down) and also put throttle stick down...but I guess it landed on its tail reason for the bent tail and I think I moved the throttle stick too quickly which caused the heli to drop from the air and cause the blades hit the ground...
