  • Raptor G4 - Servo Support Failure

    All,

One to watch out for! This happened today to a G4. He was only flying smooth and it probably had about 10 flights.

Fortunately it was flying ok and it was only noticed when it was landed.

Nice heli though, it has a 120 in it and is very smooth!!!!!!

Yea, John showed me this when I got to the field.

The amount of materal left each IDE f the screws is minimal but I'm still surprised it broke.

So lucky could have lost it, I did not know there was a problem until I landed it, spares are going to be hard to get hold of I think, Johnny boy has a friend who will make me one, a beefed up version I hope..........

                      I do wonder about this....

I mean that looks like a classic failure of metal fatigue... No crash, just repeated cycles of stress and eventually it fractures. The fact it was after so few flights suggests there was a flaw in the metal or machining but the point remains:

How often we should replace parts even if they aren't crash damaged. Especially high load items such as blade grip bolts etc.

                      Glad you got it down!

would it be possible for a g4 owner to measure the boom diameter as i'm toying with the idea of using the g4 tail gear box on a rappy 90 when i run out of tail gears that are always out of stock

25.34 mm is the reading I am getting, compared to the 25.70 for the ali boom on the 3D, the helical gears of the G4 should be better as well, nice and quiet......P.S the gears might just replace the old ones without the need to get the new gear box, also the clutch is the same size as the old version....

More likely to be a material flaw or stress induced cracking when alloy billet was made at the foundry or machined - I'm guessing this part is not cast. Trouble is, if that's the case, what other parts are suspect?

                              Damned pretty heli, though.
